Biography
Prayer for Cleansing began in 1996 and originally featured two vocalists. The band underwent some drastic member changes until 1997 when a reliable line up was finally solidified: David Anthem (vocals), Paul Waggoner (guitar), Dennis Lamb (guitar), Marc Duncan (bass) and Will Goodyear (drums). Tommy Soul (From Here On) joined the band in 1999. Most members had played in smaller hardcore, Charlotte area bands before Prayer for Cleansing was formed. The band played around the south for a few years until they had enough material to record a full-length in 1999. Tribunal Records , a then fledgling NC label, released The Rain In Endless Fall in 1999 and the band went on their first east coast tour soon thereafter in support of the record. In late 2000, following a bad van wreck and personal clashes within the band, Prayer broke up. All but David Anthem went on to form Between the Buried and Me , although only two members of the band (Tommy and Paul) remain.
2002 saw the formation of a side project band called xTriedxandTruex featuring 3 former members of Prayer, David, Paul and Tommy along with members of other NC hardcore bands including Undying, From Here On, and Over and Out. The band was short-lived though, as Tommy and Paul became increasingly busy with BTBAM. 2003 saw the release (on Tribunal again) of the re-mixed and re-mastered The Rain In Endless Fall, which featured new artwork and a much better production. In March of 2004, 4 out of 5 members (everyone but Marc, replaced by Jimmy Chang from Undying) reformed for one night in Charlotte to play a show for 1,000 friends from all over the world. The same four members + Jonathan from Undying also played in Destroy the Machines that night, an Earth Crisis cover band. In July, the band played Hellfest in Elizabethtown, NJ. That summer also saw the release of The Tragedy, a CD EP and 7" featuring the band's final unreleased material as well as a cover of The Cranberries' Salvation. The CD was released on Southern Empire Records , a label started by David Anthem and Jonathan from Undying, and the 7" was a split release between War Torn Records and Surprise Attack Records .
The band remains inactive today, although Tommy and Paul are still playing in Between the Buried and Me, David releases records every now and again, and Will plays in a solo project called William and has released 2 full-length CDs, one on Lifeforce Records and one on Textbook Records.
