About Me

My profile was beginning to annoy me, so I tore it down. Maybe I'll reinvent myself this time...

My Interests

playing softball, basketball, and golf; following the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, and Fighting Illini; listening to the music that makes me feel good, watching movies that make me think or laugh (or both), reading books that are hard to put down, and writing down my happiest, saddest, most pleasurable and twisted thoughts in no particular order to be arranged at a later date into several best selling novels.

I'd like to meet:

I have enough trouble keeping in touch with the people I've already met!

Music:

Jimmy Buffett has a song for every mood. Most of my collection is and will always be classic rock like the Allman Brothers, Zeppelin, Floyd, Skynyrd, Clapton, Hendrix, Van Halen, CCR, the Doors, the Eagles, the Stones, and the Beatles. Then there are a few that don't qualify as classic and/or rock like the Bobs (Dylan and Marley), Sinatra, Garth Brooks, and Johnny Cougar. Due to my unfortunate generational status, I'm saddled with a soft spot for both hair metal AND grunge. I still occasionally listen to Poison, Warrant, Skid Row, and the Crue. I think Guns 'n Roses was way ahead of its time and Pearl Jam was better than Nirvana (so was STP). I once loved Metallica, but do not acknowledge anything since the Black album. In more recent years Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Dave Matthews, Sublime, Ben Folds Five, Tool, and the Chili Peppers have grown on me. So, basically nothing new since the turn of the century.

Movies:

I can't even begin to scratch the surface here, but for starters....Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski, Dazed and Confused, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Office Space, American History X, The Shawshank Redemption, and the greatest trilogy ever conceived, Back to the Future! Well, it's between that and Karate Kid for sure. Unintentional comedy makes me laugh more often than movies that try to be funny. I'll take Mr. Miyagi over Will Smith any day.

Television:

I try to catch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report for my hard-hitting world news and political commentary. I also enjoy a random bunch of shows from different genres and eras like Cheers, The Wonder Years, That 70's Show, The Office, Entourage, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, South Park, Scrubs, The Sopranos, Survivor, The Shield, and apparently anything that starts with the letter S....

Books:

I'll read just about anything, from the out-dated political satire and drug-induced rantings of the late Hunter S. Thompson to Harry f'n Potter. I'm a big Stephen King fan, especially of his Dark Tower series and how names and places seem to intertwine between every book he's ever written. It's like I'm stuck in some kind of vortex, constantly chasing the truth but always finding myself one step behind.... so maybe I've read a little too much of him. Lately I'm only reading books by guys named Chuck (Klosterman and Palahniuk).
