Hwæt we Gar-Ry in gear-dagum, Hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon. (to paraphrase Beowulf)
So, Ry in days gone by, we have heard of these princes’ heroic campaigns. From small towns veiled from the pulse of the true art and even that heard in the darkness before dawn; parked, hidden high in the hills to receive the word over scratchy bargain speakers from the real world, or so we hoped, so far away. Seizing the chance we travel as far as the meager funds elicited from the tourist trade would take us. And playing there, gleaning the knowledge from those who have been there and managed to return with their souls if not their minds. Then further yet we sojourn, learning, living, searching and yearning for the Mecca that lives not in a place to be easily found but in the hearts of those who seek out its power. Guitar screaming discontent from the dimly lit hovels of the Midwest to the inexplicably raucous bars sitting isolated alone in the expanse of the desert southwest and finally to the exalted stages of the Pacific Northwest.........
Favorite Quote: “Fate hovers near, unknowable but certain”........
Played with that guy, you know the one that always wore a shirt. Have worked in the past with folks who wander the streets muttering about having had a number one song back in the day or won Daytona-Seca or whatever, when men were men, old guitars cost less than new ones, motorcycles weren't covered in plastic and the women ah, well the women......Played the stages all over in the clubs that forever come and go as well as the ones that are still there but not the same as yesterday (and we'll say the same thing tomorrow about today). Raced the tracks all over before there were pillowy soft air-thingies covering all the hard bits. Slept in the van and flew in like a star, mugged for the camera and tried to act serious for the reporter as I had the time of my life. Had my moments on track and listened to our best work on the radio but never put enough if it all together in a row so that you would know my name even if I told it to you again.Accounting for relativity and the affects of radiation Im something past 308 years old but dont feel much older than about 9 and often act accordingly.
Reviews:
"Seven Mile Ride place the bar higher with a sizzling guitar solo that would prove difficult to even the most storied guitar virtuosos." (NuFutur)
"Also, the guitar playing is on point with catchy riffs throughout the record. I simply loved what I was hearing from Shemwell—really had some killer chords and solos." (Skopemag)
"check out those searing notes that cut through the intro on ('At Home')." (Bullz Eye)
"….a huskily muscular presence in Randy Shemwell's guitar work …. he's dynamite" "Time and again, Shemwell's work sparks the listener's interest, especially the screaming intro to "Chase the Past Away", strongly reminiscent of Adrian Gurvitz's Three Man Army days, and the basic band orientation is good—capable drumming and bass work anchor the sound…." (Fame)
