Artist’s Statement:
Evolution and constant change is among us - it is an uncontrollable factor of life. Change is evident, and transformation will eventually occur. By combining figurative elements and organic forms, I seek to project an imaginary world or perhaps a distant future. I get my ideas from the simple things surrounding me in my everyday life and materialize them through various mediums. Not limiting myself to one specific medium helps me create many different forms on a variety of levels. Transferring these forms to a mixture of mediums helps me connect with each piece on a personal level, an experience I hope to share with my audience. I believe what does not exist can in fact be created; this ability gives one the power to imagine and convert imagery into real objects. By developing stylized line and constant forms between my paintings and sculptures, I link the flat picture plane with the 3-dimensional world. My 2-dimensional works allow me to present my figures in their own habitat that channels an atmosphere of their estranged, perplexed and chaotic world. Unlike my 2-dimensional work that draws the viewers mind in, my 3-dimensional sculptures co-exist and interact with the viewer. Through my imagery and elements I hope to capture people’s mind, fuel discussions and trigger many questions. How the viewer’s eye reacts to my work is very important to me. I want to give the viewer an option of either gazing among organic forms that shift, move, and melt amongst each other, or journeying through a maze of convoluted ribbons in search of what may be hidden within. Controlling movement, transformation, color and balance within my work, I seek to touch viewers’ minds, allowing them to experience a journey that soars in and out of reality.
