I am here for Friends

About Me

I've been to Ohio University's Halloween Party; I've been to France; I've lived in Arkansas; I went to Space Camp. I used to be a Cubs fan, but I don't have the moral fortitude that requires. I am a former sorority girl with a slightly checkered past. Four times a bridesmaid, last year a bride! One of my ex-boyfriends is going to be a Catholic priest. I actually miss living in Ohio. I can tell funny stories, but I can't tell jokes. I enjoy beer and baseball, but I also totally love scrapbooking. Because of my husband's ingenuity, beer comes out of the wall of our garage. Our neighbors love us; well, the ones who like beer love us. The others, not so much. Politically, I am unashamedly liberal, and tremendously excited to vote for my favorite candidate this fall.

My Interests

Stuff that always cheers me up: gummy bears, diet Canada Dry ginger ale, hearing exciting news about old friends, a good road trip (few and far between now that price of gas has hit "WTF" range), watching my favorite movies with no smart aleck comments from my husband, being at a baseball game, getting carded (yeah, it's actually amusing to me now), sinking a putt I was sure was too far away to make it, Woodhaven, my sorority's many successes, a great margarita and the thought of going back to San Francisco someday when we can afford it.

I'd like to meet:

Jason and Val's new baby, Caryl Churchill, Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Zach Braff, my cousin David's wife and kids, and my new neighbors.

Music:

Violent Femmes, Jimmy Eat World, Barenaked Ladies, the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Cake, Sarah McLachlan, Gorillaz, Green Day, Fiona Apple, Counting Crows, most Motown (even though I dance like a white girl), Dave Matthews Band, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Gnarls Barkley.

Movies:

Office Space, The Big Chill, Clue, Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version), Batman, X-Men, Ever After, Shakespeare in Love, Batman Begins, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Little Miss Sunshine, The Last Kiss, Stranger Than Fiction, 10 Things I Hate About You, Shaun of the Dead.

Television:

Family Guy, ER, Scrubs, baseball, Bears football (But last season kinda sucked), My Name is Earl, Mythbusters, Numb3rs, Ghost Hunters, South Park, Chuck, Heroes, Reaper, Journeyman.

Books:

Pride and Prejudice; Road Fever; Sex Drugs & Cocoa Puffs; The Anne of Green Gables series; Top Girls; Tom Stoppard plays; Dracula; A Midsummer Night's Dream; Richard III; Less Than Zero, Rules of Attraction, Harry Potter (yes, the whole series), and I'm finally finishing the end of the Chronicles of Narnia. Frick, I am a nerd.

Heroes:

Parents, because that takes more guts than I've got. Writers, because that takes more talent than I've got.

My Blog

We tell ourselves stories in order to live (Joan Didion, I think)

Having received my latest Mount Union alumni magazine in the mail today, I had to page through and see what all my friends have been doing lately.  I always start at the back of the magazine, wit...

It’s not just another story when it’s down the street

The building where I work was on lockdown this afternoon, because we are located near the campus of NIU, where another gunman broke into another academic building and shot another bunch of people. It...

Way Down Yonder

A good friend of mine from college has relocated to North Carolina, and recently posted this bulletin.  I couldn't help but laugh at how similar her experiences were to mine when I lived in Arkan...

It’s just... sad is all.

I heard about Sean Taylor's death this morning.  Any professional athlete that passes away makes the news, so even though he played a sport, football, that I don't follow religious...

The Honeymoon is Over

No, not like that.  The honeymoon is complete, and after spending one week with each other non-stop, we still like each other.  We spent all day in airports on Saturday, and finally got...

So How Do You Pronounce That Again?

I sent out some faxes today at work.  I had to sign them.  I've spent lots and lots of years signing my name in a particular way, and today realized that I need to learn a new way, as my las...

And Then There Were Five

Cubs were swept, so my fiance and neighbors and future-mother-in-law were displeased this weekend.  Angels and Phils were also swept, so the only series left to tie up is my Cleveland Indians vs....

My House Is A House Divided

My house is a house divided.  I am a fan of the Cleveland Indians, a team that clinched the AL Central Championship on my birthday this past Sunday.  My wonderful fiance is a Cubs Fan (but I...

Random Thoughts

Just a few things on the top of my head at the moment: We (Finally!) got our wedding rings.  So, for those who were semi-expecting it, we won't be wrapping gummi worms around each other's fingers...
