Guitar MySpace Layouts - Electric Guitar MySpace Layouts
Guitar MySpace LayoutsTangents began in 1999 as "The Lamar Mauldin Experience" as a one time benefit backing band. The benefit was a success!!! After that, the boys Lamar had recruited as his backing band began plans to keep doing the music thing. They approached Lamar who told them it was fine with him if they'd rehearse. The band rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed... until finally Lamar decided they were ready to play a gig. The gig was Allen's in Athens, Ga. The owner was a nice older guy who thought the band wasn't that good but they were willing to play for free so what the heck. After a couple of shows, the boys began to get a feel for live playing and the sound improved more and more. After about a year, the band was booked into their first real honky tonk. The Cadillac Country Club in Winder, Ga.
The band played at The Cadillac Country Club and was schooled in Honky Tonkin' by Mr. Tim Parks. (Former manager of the club and dear friend) After about a year, the band began taking home made recordings of their live shows around to other clubs and got a few gigs. In 2003, the band went through a lineup change adding Danny Esposito, Jeff Hargens and Robert Williamson to the band. Robert left the band in 2005 due to personal reasons. The band continued to write and record original music for a possible release in 2006. Unfortunately the original recording process had to take a backseat to a heavy gig load. In November 2007 the band neared completion of their first album of all original material with only a few harmony vocals to be added as a finishing touch. This was slated to be completed in Jan. of 08. Unfortunately the bands producer, The legendary Rick Fowler of Athens, Ga. was in the middle of finishing his new album and the band decided to go in the studio in February or March. This was not to be though as the band suffered the death of Lead Guitarist Danny Esposito on Feb. 7, 2008.
As of March 1st, 2008, Big Don Spurlin (Formerly of The Big Don Band) won the spot of the newest Tangents member as our lead guitarist. Don's style is more bluesy but definitely kick ass and he is a great singer/songwriter as well. As of April 22nd, 2008, keyboard player Jason Crowe left Tangents after nearly two years to follow other musical directions.
The tale continues... July 19th, 2008.... Jeff Hargens (A five year member and co manager for Tangents) and Big Don Spurlin stepped down from Tangents to pursue other things. We wish you both the best from the bottom of our hearts and a special "Thank You" to Big Don for stepping in and keeping us going after our loss. Thank you.
On to the present. As of July 20th we have the pleasure of welcoming a new member. Darrel Curtis on Lead Guitar. And we also welcome Tommy Wright on Drums and backing vocals. On May 23rd, 2009 Tangents officially welcomed Steve Thropp on Keys to the band. This guy really rocks. Come check him out with the guys.
