Lowe Profile was formed by brothers Jason and Matthew Lowe in 1996 as a duo playing covers and a large amount of original music. The two found success and a small but loyal following in the Peoria and Canton, Illinois music scenes. Times were changing, however, and all too soon the duo had to take a break to continue their respective educations. After years of hard work and dedication, Jason became an OB/GYN and Matthew earned his Masters in Architecture.
When Jason returned to Canton in 2003 to begin his practice, a chance meeting with friend and guitarist Scott Stockman led to what is now Lowe Profile. "I was hoping to network with some people and get a weekly jam session going," states multi-instrumentalist Jason. "Just something to have fun with and to help keep the chops up." "It wasn't until our first jam that we considered forming a full time band," adds Stockman. "We just clicked too well, and when that happens...which is rare...you run with it." With the addition of the superb vocals of longtime friend Ray DePriest, the group set out to find a solid rhythm section. "We found that in Patrick Jenkins and Chris Breese," interjects DePriest. "These guys are top notch...not that they would admit to it...way too humble for that."
With the lineup in place, the band set out to build a songlist and play some shows. They soon got their opportunity, and were booked as an opening act for 5 time Grammy winner and Academy Award winning singer/songwriter Christopher Cross. "That was to be our first gig," states Stockman. "Quite an honor to even be asked. We weren't sure how we would be received (having a somewhat different songlist)...we wanted a trial run before we went out on the big stage." The band quickly arranged a 'debut' free show at Jones Park in downtown Canton with the help of local business sponsors. The show, entitled "Saturday in the Park", was a definite hit. Over 300 people of all ages braved the 100 plus degree heat for the full duration of the 2 and a half hour show. "We were really amazed by the turnout...it was really a boost to our spirits and got us pumped up for the opening slot with Christopher Cross," states Jason Lowe. Finally, the day of the big show arrived. Once again, their chemistry was undeniable and the band played an extremely tight set to an appreciative crowd. The fans, it seems, weren't the only ones impressed. Word was sent to the band via Cross' Road Manager that Christopher had really enjoyed their music. It seems he had listened from his dressing room and was "amazed" by the bands quality. In addition to this wonderful praise, the band was offered a sponsorship from Miller Lite upon leaving the stage. Not bad for a second gig. Success was at hand.
Perhaps Matt sums it up best. "When Jason and I first started Lowe Profile (10 years ago this past January), I always had the dream that we could be something bigger. A band that could write amazing original music and play the cover songs that inspired us as musicians, as listeners, and as songwriters. We've experienced our highs and lows...but now, that dream is becoming a reality. I can't imagine a better lineup for Lowe Profile to take this musical journey to the next level. The best is yet to come!"
