About Me

May 2008: Hanzie Records is proud to announce the simultaneous release of two long awaited CD's! The self-titled BELLE ISLANDERS and Poppie & The Stable's THICK LIKE GRITS are now available at Metro Detroit independent record stores (Rockabilly's in Utica, etc..) and cdbaby.com as well as hanzierecords.com . They'll both be available for download on iTunes and other digital stores in June. The Belle Islanders are a Detroit reggae supergroup featuring lead singer of The Look, Dave Edwards and members of Black Market & Raggamuffin: Mitch Purdy, Jim Megerian & Bob Monteleone. Vocalist April Monteleone and Jamaican guitarist/keybordist Brian Silverman also lend their talents on the record. This record is a tribute to the music that came out of Kingston, Jamaica in the early 1970's, before synths, drum machines and "toasting". Poppie & The Stable's debut, THICK LIKE GRITS , is a unique recording. It's a delicious stew of hip-hop, funk, r&b and Latin with both English & Spanish lyrics, usually in the same song! It features hard-driving grooves with relentless percussion featuring a who's who of Detroit rappers & musicians too numerous to name here. Visionary Raymondo has created a homage to the "streets of the city" that MUST BE HEARD!Luck and Trouble's 2 releases are still available as well. MALFUNCTION JUNCTION (2002) and VALPO (2005) are Americana/rock classics featuring the renowned songwriting pen of The Refreshment's ("Banditos", "King of the Hill Theme", etc..) Brian Blush. Refreshment's fans might take note of the 1st ever studio recording of "Rearranging Deck Chairs On The Titantic" on VALPO. Brian used to perform this song by himself as an encore on special Refreshment's concerts! TAKE ANOTHER LOOK (2004) is Dave Edwards' 1st solo release after years of fronting The Look. TAKE ANOTHER LOOK features straight ahead rockers like "Jenny In A Silhouette" (w/ The Rockets' Jim McCarty & Johnny Bee) and Graham Parker's "Soul Shoes"; funky grooves like "Every Thing That You Do" and Delbert McClinton's "Giving It Up For Your Love"; and some fine balladry like "Let's Make Love". The common thread is Dave's unmistakable voice, a Detroit treasure for over 20 years. Listen to a track from all these releases right here and please visit hanzierecords.com for more info & music!!
