About Me

This porch has stories to tell...
Past, present, and future. I've laid down my guitar to create a movement. The Peace from the Porch Project. In 2004, we summed up four years of Bear Creek Concerts and independent music and the community it creates with "Peace from the Porch, Vol.1" We raised money for the American Cancer Society. 2006 brought forth "Peace from the Porch, Vol. 2." The best in independent music sat on this porch with me and talked about domestic violence and how to stop it, and we invited you to join us in making a difference. In 2007, we took on rural illiteracy. And in 2008, we collected hundreds of pounds of food for the hungry. This season, we're reminding you that compassion spreads throughout the earth, so we'll collect food and supplies for animal rescue organizations.
Our mission is this: The Peace from the Porch Project provides tools for basic human success through the presentation of musicians who support peace on the home front.
A fancy run-on sentence that we hang our hat on because it defines the porch, the people who dwell here, and our desire to make life better for ourselves and everyone of our neighbors; regardless of how far they might actually live from us. We make incredible music, we invite you to listen, we take that formula and use it to raise money and resources to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, protect the abused, educate the illiterate, and take away the sickness that infects the bodies, hearts and souls of a world without peace. Charitable giving and education are the products of our music and labor. We are musicians, fans, philanthropists, community activists, and just everyday regular people. To be a porch dweller is a special thing.
Come on up. Join us on the porch. The musicians you meet here are fiercely independent, but they understand the importance of community. While showing off some of the best independent artists in the world, I hope that we redefine the word, "peace." While it certainly means ending war, it also means taking care of our own backyards. There's no peace in ignorance, lack of education, neglect, abuse, hunger, violence and emotional pain, so we're here to share our music while raising your awareness.
My name is Christy Claxton. I'm the host and creator of Bear Creek Concerts, and I promote and present great DIY musicians who have demonstrated excellence in their craft and commitment to making this world a better place to live. I produce compilation CDs that feature these great acts. From artists you've never heard of to some of your independent favorites, I think you'll find this is a nice place to hang out. So come and see us when you find yourself cruising down Highway 71 between Austin and Houston! In the meantime, from a porch in the middle of a hayfield, in the middle of Fayette County, in the middle of Texas, I invite you to pull up a chair and have a listen and enjoy a little...

The Bear Creek player always features artists who will be performing or have performed from the porch.
In 2009, we'll collect food and supplies for animal rescue organizations, so bring something for ones who can't speak for themselves when you visit the porch.

The peace from the proch project is really buzzing

I don't know.  Sometimes you just hit a hot topic and people just seem to come out of the woodwork in support of it.  I think that's where we're headed in 2009 with the Peace from the Porch ...

2009 will be a powerhouse season from the porch

Last winter, Sheryl, Celina and I took a cruise.  This is not something that would normally appeal to me, but I had received an email from Beth Wood, and she was announcing her selection to sail ...

Whats the future hold?

I haven't been terribly verbose lately.  Needed a little mini-respite after the 2008 season retired.  We had a good run, and I'm energized and ready to step up the game with more variety and...

What’s the plan, man?

O.K.  This economy isn't getting any better any time soon.  Even once we stop the avalanche, there's going to be a residual slide.  So I'm opening it up to the gallery.  Let me hea...
