Can't tell everything, gotta keep a lil' something to yourself is what they always say. I am however required by the universe to speak the truth of my existence. My music is the reflection of my soul and my experience. I am complicated, yet inherently simple. I stand alone, yet so much a part of you. I in my imperfect state, present my most perfect gift, in my own words, my song to you.
I have wanted to sing for as long as I can remember. In fact, I always sang... in my room, in the car, school stages, smokey open mics, wherever! As a young woman, I'd been told I had a special annointing and was encouraged by others to share my gift. In college I formed a short-lived group with a talented singer from Norfolk State University. Although the collaboration was short-lived, I knew someday that I would share my gift with the world.
Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to honing my songwriting and performance skills, appearing at Washington-area open mics, talent showcases, and regional festivals such as AFRAM Fest, Black Family Reunion Celebration, and venues such as Bar Nun, Infusions Tea Cafe, Club Five, Borders Books and Music, Karibu Books, Twinz Jazz, and other venues around the city.
One could say that I'm a child of 70's soul. Lush orchestration, thought-provoking lyrics, lover of singers who simply saaaaang! Simply put I am a soul-child reborn, delivering straight vocals, no chaser, tight arrangements, innovation and elevation of the ever-changing genre called R&B. My sound...is honey-coated alto, breathy and full like a summer breeze. My style...it's soulful, yet spiritual, but something not yet seen. The sound coming forth can't be defined, so I'll just vocalize and let you decide.
