"You're not the mastermind I am a product of my own design"
Name: John William Petty, but I go by Wil
Hometown: I was born in Atlanta, GA and lived in Buford for the first few years of my life. But I also lived in Norman, Oklahoma for about ten years. So I consider my hometown to be Norman.
Your hometown in my opinion is not where you are born. It is where you learned the basics of life, had the happiest memories, had your first kiss, where when you think of when you were a "kid" without a worry in the world.
Current Location: Loganville, GA even though I'm hardly ever there
Sex & Relationship: I'm a male, and single.
Birthday: October 5. The day the Parisians marched to Versailles to confront the French Monarchy of Louis XVI, "let me eat cake," 4 years later on the same day Christianity was disestablished in France. Portugal became its own country recognized by King Alfonso VII of Spain. During WWI, the first aerial combat kill of millions occured on October 5. The first N/A meeting and the very first televised presidental address occured as well. And the very great Steve Miller was also born on this day. I take pride in my birthday. I won't go into detail about 1988, who cares about the 80s? A decade of Republican rule... no wonder things were so fucked up.
Music: Music in my opinion is the reason why the human race still exists. A song is a five minute escape from the world. I can never pick my favorite band or favorite song so never ask me those questions. Just look at the music section I have on the left, the list is long and I still add bands on there all the time. If you ever go anywhere in my van it is guaranteed you will hear music. If you want to, bring your music, I'm more than willing to listen to the very few artists I haven't heard. Of course like everybody else there are plenty of artists I do not like, but I give respect and recognition to them. Country, Rock, Rap, Death Metal, Reggae, Ragtown, it doesn't matter at all. Somebody wrote it to send a message to the world, and the world needs to listen. It may be "oh my god my girlfriend just broke my heart and my soul has turned into a black abyss of hatred" or "Do the soulja boy" and I may not like it, but I will NEVER dog on the artist for it. I get beyond fed up with people who do not even make music being so critical of other musicians, and even more fed up whenever people praise a musician's failure. If you do not like the song, don't listen to it simple as that.
Radio isn't good, but it isn't exactly bad either. It all depends on the station. It is a sad thing that 2 corporations own like 60 to 80 percent of all of the nation's radio stations, but there are still some local ones who are making it; you just have to know where to look. I miss the way DJs used to be, not having greedy corporations tell them who and what they can play and when. They would listen to the songs, find a song they like and play it. Maybe if that came back people would gain respect for radio again. Radio used to be local, now to the stations "appealing to the local scene" is a 30 minute show playing bands and never hearing them on there again, unless they get signed. I still have some hope that radio will be saved, it's probably one that will die soon though.
In case you have not figured it out yet, I am a musician. Music is my life, and will always be. I am a songwriter. I have been playing guitar for 9 years and treat my guitars and my songs like my children. Right now all of my recorded material is acoustic (and one actual studio recording). If things work out though, expect something different. The new sound of music is coming soon, just wait and see. I have a myspace with my rough recordings if you want to listen to them you can. You'll see it on my top friends list.
Politics: I'm a very strong liberal and base my political beliefs on three things: life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness. Nothing should ever come between humans and Locke's Law. I voted for Barack Obama, but I still feel even he is too conservative on issues like Israeli-Palestinian affairs and the drug war. Call me crazy or whatever you want. I'm pro-choice, support gay marriage, right to die, and almost any liberal view you throw out there I will agree with.
Which brings me to my next thing: social conservatives piss me off. I don't have a problem with you believing what you do, but where I do have a problem is when you try to get the government to dictate what citizens should do, all in the name of god. NOT EVERYBODY BELIEVES THE SAME THINGS!!! You know the funny thing about that though, its always "abortion is murder", "right to die is playing god" and "homosexuality is a sin", but 9 times out of 10 when I ask about the death penalty you support it. Whenever I ask about welfare, you don't believe we should help the poor. Darfar? Rwanda? who cares, it's not "American interest", and they probably look upon them as the infidel. As far as the death penalty goes: Jesus himself said "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" (John 8:7). So that is in my view pretty hypocritical of them to think that abortion is so wrong, right to die is so wrong, yet we have a justifyable reason for the death penalty. According to what your holy text says, nobody is perfect and it is God's decision on when their times have came. I'm not saying murderers shouldn't be punished, I just don't think they need to be murdered themselves. Plus it invades a person's right to life and just shows that really our justice system is a fucked up food chain. If somebody dies, somebody else who probably didn't even know the person killed at all will kill them. And as far as welfare, look in the old testament about the concept of gleen. Probably not the way you spell it but its worth a try. Basically it was when the farmers in biblical times harvested their crops they left a certain ammount for the poor to be able to take some as they walked by so they could eat and ultimately, live. I like to think of these people as authoritarians trying to gain control of others through the spiritual being that we believe in. And I thought playing God was wrong? Right, totally see where you're coming from
Yea I usually disagree with social conservatives as you can tell. Anyway, I'm against the war in Iraq, and won't join the military because my life is not worth a barrel of oil. I'm not against the war on "terror" because you can't win a war on a concept. War on poverty, war on drugs, war on terror, try and fight a war on thoughts see what happens then. Ultimately, I long for peace. As long as the world and human race have a love for power and greed we won't see it. I'm one of those that truly believe in and want world peace, rather than someone saying it as some bullshit line to win Miss America. The thing that saddens me the most is the fact we don't really punish genocide. Since the holocaust, we have seen genocide in Rwanda, Sudan, and there are plenty more. What does our government do? They stay out, seems to be the only time we support the Monroe Doctorine, yes I know that isn't what we follow anymore. We only police the world when we want to show off how much "better" we are, if you realize our foreign policy is the reason the world hates us, then you're on the right page. They don't hate us for our "freedom." They hate us because we infringe on them imperialistically, end of story.
Religion: Yea after that long rant I just gave guess what i am? I'm a christian, ironic? I am pretty liberal in my beliefs, and always try to find the true meanings. I really dislike denominations, but I am a Quaker. No I don't wear all black and ride a buggie that's the Amish. No, I don't eat Oatmeal... not a big fan. I do have some beliefs that stray from traditional christianity, like I believe in evolution, question the "Anti-Christ," and I don't believe the world was created in seven "literal" days. To me hell seems almost impossible, the new testement preaches of a loving god, and that god considers us his children. So then, how could one "burn" for eternity in hell? I'm not saying that it exists or doesn't, I just decide to live life and try to have the least amount of regrets as possible so I do not have much to answer for on judgement day. That is not really going well lol.
I like to believe I am a moral "christian" and a political "agnostic". What that means is when I go to vote I don't take my religious beliefs into account because it affects other people and not just me. If I was a woman, I wouldn't have an abortion because I believe they are morally wrong. At the same time, who am I to say that it needs to be illegal and prevent those who truly need them from having the resources to do so? I can't. Especially since it is a woman's issue and not mine. I don't necessarily think homosexuality is a sin, but I am not gay. Does that mean that I need to judge them negatively over it and vote on laws to ban them from having that right? No, because I thought we had gone through the Civil Rights movement in the 60s. Get what I'm saying? And all the bible verses thrown at me about homosexuality, I see taken out of context, Sodom and Gomorrah for instance... I took that as rape being wrong, not homosexuality. Plus I try not to judge to begin with. I'm not going to say I don't because I sometimes do (part of being human), but if I do I'll still give the benefit of the doubt.
I guess in the end, I don't know what happens when we die. I like to think of going to heaven as just a guarantee but who really can say that atheists are wrong and that when we die we just decay? Science has shown that when we die that something like half an ounce is taken from our bodies and it is believed that it is our "souls" but really who knows until we get there? We can't unless we see it for ourselves.
Other: Lets see what did I leave out... Oh I'm a college student at Gainesville State College in Oakwood, and Watkinsville. My major is journalism, and I hope to after graduating college work at a newspaper or magazine for a music section. Next year, I am transfering; most likey to an out of state school. UNC is my top choice, but I also like Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma, Middle Tennessee, etc. After I graduate I'll probably start life, or go into the Peace Corps, it depends on what happens. Might say fuck it and work on my Master's degree. I want to go in the Peace Corps because I want to do something to change the world instead of just sitting around bitching about what is wrong with it. Yea thats about it if I think of anything else I'll add it.
Oh yea one more thing, sometimes I do say some things that are politically incorrect. Like I sometimes call the Holocaust the Jew-b-que, don't take me serious on stuff like that I say it all in fun. I have a pretty raw sense of humor and I do truly feel bad for what happened. But for real, don't live by it, just think of it as me being a stand up comedian or some shit. If you take such offense to things as miniscule as that, then you probably have issues. It's purely satirical.
