Drunken Meditation started in early 2005 as Brad’s way to express his views on the Bush Administration. Soon after, they played 3 song set to friends and family in Brad’s garage with the original lineup; Brad on vocals, Patrick on guitar, Ian on bass, and Dylan on drums.
Ian not feeling right about playing in a punk rock band, soon quit and Drunken Meditation got their friend Brennon to play bass for them. About a month or so after Brennon joined, he could not play an upcoming show at a local venue called Wired. So, Patrick enlisted his friend Chris to play bass for them for the show as a temporary bassist. But during that time, the band had written six more songs with Chris so they decided to keep him in the band after the success of the Wired show.
A week after the Wired show, Drunken Meditation was asked to play at a local anti-war rally. The band whole heartedly agreed due to their stance on the war and was interviewed on a local radio show KPFT. During this time, Dylan decided to quit the band and forced Drunken Meditation to play two local shows without a drummer. They soon enlisted the help of their friend Harland, who played durms for another local band, The Bloody Mushrooms. Very soon after, the band found a permanent replacement drummer, HL.
During the jam sessions with HL, songs such as “Shadow of the Sun†and “Coexist†started to take form which led to a unique sound that was instantly recognizable with fans. After a few months of working on new songs and playing local shows, the band soon headlined a local show called Punk Rock Prom and competed in a battle of the band’s at the legendary Houston venue, Fitzgerald’s. These two shows gave the band a confidence boost to record their first CD, “Mind Bleachâ€.
About half a year of playing shows around the Houston area, the band decided to add a second guitarist, Jellybean. Soon after, the band recorded their EP, Angel’s For Hire. The EP showcased the different influences of the band ranging from modern punk rock to a more progressive punk metal hybrid.
