I am here for Networking

About Me

S. Malik Husser is an upcoming, aspiring host/model/actor. He always uses the word "aspiring" because he feels as though "we should all aspire to be better, no matter where we are in the game."
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he spent the majority of his life in South Carolina. He began his modeling career while doing an internship in Chicago, Illinois in 2000. A photographer spotted him one day and asked him had he ever thought about modeling. The photographer wanted to use Malik to build his fashion photography portofolio, especially since he didn't have any black models. After taking the pictures, Malik began to take a closer look at the potential of advancing in the modeling industry, especially since there aren't many successful black models in the business. After returning to school the fall of that year, he began working with various photographers, and also began pursuing more acting opportunities. It was also at this time that he began throwing parties with one of his best friends and frat brothers, and became a "hypeman" where as he put it "learned how to rock the mic".
In 2002, Malik, feeling frustrated with the lack of opportunities in South Carolina, quit his job as an Account Manager at a regional Advertising agency in Columbia, left SC for Chocolate City, Washington DC. He knew that he should really move to NYC, but he felt that DC would be a great bridge to NY and a challenge to see if he himself could make it in a larger city and make an impact. In April of 2002, while looking for a job, he joined up with the Usual Suspectz (www.usualsuspectz.com) a marketing and promotions company, whom at the time was an up and coming promotions entity that threw good parties. "I had heard about them through a lot of other people and I knew that it would be a great networking opportunity too, so I went to one of their happy hours and asked if they needed someone to rock the mic, later in the evening, once it became a party. Rob, one of the partners, looked at me and kind of laughed and then went to get the mic. He didn't take me serious seeing as though I was suited up from going to interviews and what not, but once he gave me the mic, it was a wrap". That led to a variety of other opportunities for Malik. Being on the scene and in the mix, allowed him to share his aspirations with others and link up with like-minded individuals. It was at this time Malik also connected with Waikeena Robinson, the president and owner of Jolie Entertainment (www.jolieentertainment). She was beginning her own modeling agency and saw him as someone she could use frequently in shows and other events that her company is called upon to help with. He has done a bevy of fashion shows in DC, Virginia and Maryland and has rocked the mic in every major club in DC, including the infamous Dream (now LOVE), H20, 1223 and the Historic Republic Gardens. He has also rocked with some of DC's hottest DJ's, including but not limited to: DJ Top Choice, DJ Quicksilver (KYS) DJ Precise, DJ Analyze, DJ Ben-Amin, DJ Markie B (aka Scientific), DJ Quicksilver (PGC) On top of that, he has had several on-air opportunities and has used his unique voice to do voiceovers and host many different events locally.
His focus has somewhat switched as of recent because of his love for "rocking the mic". He hasn't given up moving to NYC and still actively pursues modeling opportunities, however, his focus has shifted to being a Vee Jay for one of the major entertainment outlets, preferrably, MTV or BET. "I enjoy being in front of the camera and I pray that one day it pays off and I could potentially work with a large fashion campaign (i.e. Sean John, Polo), however, I believe that if you have several different talents, why not use them all to get to where you want to be. Why couldn't I do modeling, show up in your favorite songstress' video, and host TRL? Being black, not only does the industry limit us, but we limit ourselves as well. Our counterparts get away with it all of the time and trust me, I'm better than half of them out, and I'm willing to bet on that, in EVERY category".
We're sure you'll be seeing Malik Husser, sometime in the near future. Just look for him and you won't be disappointed.
