A certain pirate, who I adore, that makes it hard for me to concentrate on anything else every single day.
Being happy :) That's really my only goal in life, I just want to be able to wake up with a clear head and go to sleep without a care. Of course that's not the way life is all the time...but that is what "interests" me.
Responsible people who can take care of themselves and who do not always look everywhere except a mirror when it comes to finding the root of their problems. This came from my son's elementary school counselor. I know more adults who need to learn the following than kids...
How To Be a Responsible Person
* Be reliable and dependable; when you agree to do something, do it.
* Take care of your own business. Don't make others do what you are supposed to do.
* Take responsibility for your actions; don't make excuses or blame others.
* Use your head; think before you act; imagine the consequences.
** THERE IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE AT THE END OF THIS SECTION **
This is an ever-evolving area for me. I go through stages. I usually don't stop *liking* any particular type...but there are some that I'll only listen to as a novelty and couldn't stomach a steady diet of it. I would say the genres that I have been most interested in are metal, alternative and punk in different variations.
Ummm, early days (I guess starting in jr. high it was all about Iron Maiden and Metallica. If I had nothing else to listen to from ages 13-14 I would've been fine. I also listened to quite a bit of AC/DC, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Judas Priest, yada yada yada. Always had thing for Pink Floyd too...but I HATE The Grateful Dead. I can't even listen to it. Too happy hippy for me. Most of my musical tastes seem to be rooted in darker, deeper, occassionally angry music. Kinda weird since I'm not an angry person...but I guess music is my outlet for those feelings, that and writing.
Back to the progression...I even listened to some hair bands, Motley Crue (way back when), Queensryche... but never ever EVER anything like Poison, Cinderella, Skid Row, Winger, or any of that poser nonsense. LOL, I used to get so insulted when people would call that metal! For shame!!
Somewhere around 15 I started broadening my horizons (hehe, not really) and these stuck for a long time...(of course still Metallica and Maiden), Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Biohazard, Anthrax, Possessed, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Overkill, Sodom, Testament, Sepultura, Exodus, S.O.D. Lots of speed metal and quite a bit of industrial metal i.e. Ministry, Gravity Kills.
Then in my late teens, early 20's I mellowed out a bit. Went more alternative. Tool, Faith No More, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Limp Bizkit. Closest to mainstream pop I've gone I guess would be U2, Sting, Dave Matthews...not so much of that anymore.
Then in my late 20s...the strangest thing happened, I found out that I absolutely love slamming powerful house music. NO ONE was more surprised than me!! After a lifetime of metal and alt...I went to a club in NYC on a last minute whim...and I was HOOKED! I don't even need to name names cause there are just too damn many good DJ's out there. All you need to know is the genre. Not rap, not top 40 pop cheese...but HOUSE, progressive, tribal, sometimes a bit of trance...but not too much. I love a hard fast pounding beat. I will always be a sucker for an awesome buildup.
I listen to my Sirius most of the time now...but in case your wondering...the artists that have had the honor of being played in lieu of satellite most recently: Taking Back Sunday, Angels and Airwaves, My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, POD, Collective Soul, Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, Lost Prophets, Trapt, The Classic Crime, Rise Against and the like. I love bar bands...got some good ones in my friends list.
So now, it's mainly a mix of alternative, house and metal...depending on my mood.
One last thing... Axel Rose is a no talent ASS CLOWN. I HATE Guns and Roses!!!! heeheeheebr /
ALL Jim Carrey movies, Napoleon Dynomite, Borat, Team America, Nightmare on Elm Street, Shawn of the Dead, Lord of the Rings, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead, Airplane, Terminator series, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean, Kill Bill, Office Space, The Departed, Good Will Hunting, Awakenings, Ice Age, Naked Gun, Jackass, Addams Family, The Big Lebowski, Radio, Superbad, Blood Diamond, Falling Down, I am Sam, Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Nacho Libre, Zorro, The Crow, Cinderella Man, The Shining, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, A Beautiful Mind, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, The Producers, Wedding Crashers, Something About Mary, Meet The Parents (& The Fockers), Get Shorty and Be CoolMany more I'm sure...
I love comedies, since you can watch them more than once and truly enjoy it. A drama is good for 1 or 2 viewings...but it gets old.
I like action movies. But not ultra cheesy "Vin Diesel playing the same exact role everytime".
Horror movies? I prefer ones with an actual plot. I have no interest in a movie like Hostel. That seemed too over the top.
Pretty much anything on Fox. Absolutely love Family Guy, American Dad, Terminator, 24, Prison Break. South Park, Seinfeld (even the repeats), Simpsons, House, Chappelle Show, MadTV, Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I also watch the Discovery Networks quite a bit. Discovery, History Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet, The Military Channel (I know...but I’ve always been a tomboy)Any and all supernatural shows (Ghosthunters, A Haunting, Paranormal State, Most Haunted, et. al.)
Anything. From my favorite kids book (that's not really a kids book), "Watership Down" to my most recent non-fiction book, "Iron Coffins". An incredible account of Herbert Werner's experiences while serving on 5 U-Boats during WWII. I've had a U-Boat obsession ever since I read "Shadow Divers" which told the story of a U-869 found off the coast of New Jersey in 1991.
Also finally read "A Million Little Pieces". Loved it despite the controversy. Spoke to me about some past relationships with people who had substance/alcohol abuse issues."A Child Called It" "The Lost Boy" and "A Man Named Dave", unbelievable trilogy telling the story of an a brutally abused boy and his struggle to overcome the damage that was done to him. These books make you want to find the author and give him a huge hug.
