About Me

Here played out before us all is a clash, not of good against evil, but rather something more. There are clashes of judgment, clashes among different interpretations of what is good and what is just, and clashes over who is to suffer the wages of evil born of our best intentions. This is a story enacted by us all, a love story, a story of untold beauty, a story of hatred and rage - this is the Iliad. This is the tale of how we, we ourselves; you and I choose to share whatever gifts and abilities we have with the world, even when perhaps especially when, those abilities are overwhelmed by the task at hand. It is a story we pen each moment of our lives, not about Emperors and Gods but about mortals and fools, and how we wish ourselves, our lives to be.We are, all of us, bards, and we sing our tale each moment around dorms and carpools and along cafeteria lines at work and school. If we share our stories with one another, refine them with our collective wisdom there is no telling what wonders we may achieve. Together we may enact a story of how humanity ought to be and through its retelling evolve as individuals and a group. We will craft our tale together, make it grander, more holistic and share it with those willing to listen. New troubadours will join their song with ours and our discourse will give birth to new friendships and ideas.As friends we shall quest for answers with an eager willingness to provoke change not only in others but also in ourselves. We must searchingly ask the questions so many have stopped asking. What sort of world are we leaving for our children to cope with, what happens when our institutions no longer reflect the truth of our own experience and how do we respond to injustices that seem systemic and overwhelming? We must awaken to the very life we are living which is so excellent many of us dont even notice its majesty. First our petty desires, idle thoughts and pessimism must not dissuade us from our mission, but rather serve, as inspiration for what we know must be done. Then, only then may we begin to heal, one person at a time starting with ourselves. I realize this may seem to be the tallest of tall orders, crafting a finer world always is, but take comfort in this.Life is about accepting flaws and virtues, about spreading hope and optimism in an age of cynical apathy. Realizing amongst the most ordinary there are heroes waiting to be forged. Our actions, our Iliad will be a resplendent message to our successors future. We must confront the future responsibly, not modestly, not unself-consciously and certainly not with faith in a power greater than ours to descend from the sky to set things right despite our best efforts to foul up. We have an obligation to know who we are, where we are and what we can do. We have a responsibility to understand the ramifications of of the things we do and to choose to do them â€“ or not â€“ with our eyes wide open.This is what I am. Join me.
