world premiere recording of mf for string quartet
about me
I was born in Newark, NJ in 1961, and have been described as a postminimalist composer, although I'm not a big fan of labels. While influenced by many composers, including Feldman, Reich, Glass, Webern, Messiaen, Bartok and others, I follow my own voice and ideas. Recent works include ushabti (violin and piano) (2007-2008), and darfur pogrommen (open instrumentation) (2007). I also have written an extended piece for string quartet called for philip glass (it has nothing to do with the aforementioned composer). You can hear an excerpt above---it's two hours long in one continuous section.
shameless self-promotion:
A 96khz/24bit audio DVD containing a string quartet arrangement (mf) of the last movement of brass piece for arielle victoria is available from OgreOgress Productions. My music may be found on the Web radio stations PostClassic Radio and Contemporary Classical Radio, and has also been featured on Music from Other Minds on KALW-FM in San Francisco.
I continue to compose music for different instrumental groupings, much of which may be found on my music page. If you are intrigued, please feel free to go to my music site and download the free audio files and scores (PDF format). Put the files on your iPod, share them with your friends... whatever. The more people who listen, the better. And if you would like to perform one or more compositions, you can download the score---just drop me an e-mail to let me know you're interested, and I can also provide parts as needed.
