"I Write the Songs that Make the Whole World Sing"

About Me

I am an occasional musician, an infrequent songwriter, and a regular gym enthusiast. I have been influenced by the works of Shane Macgowan, the comic genius of Spike Milligan, and the life-long friendship of Pecker Dunne. If I had not met the late Noel Redding, I still wouldn't know the back end of a guitar from a strimmer. I love comic situations, and Harlan Coben is my current favourite author.Check out the songs that kept me from being famous: www.myspace.com/roxyjon.

My Interests

Friends in the Key of Life

Music:

I like the music of Shane Macgowan, Ron Kavana, Pecker Dunne, The Atrix, The Radiators, Mick Flannery, Jimi Hendrix, the beautiful voices of Joan Baez, Marianne Faithfull, and Peggy Sweeney, and the songwriting genius that is Ray Davies. I am also enthralled by Peter Skellern, Marianne Faithfull, and Andy Williams on a frequent basis; not to mention the Sex Pistols, Sham 69, and The Beat. Who could forget the magic of The Specials, Ian Richards & the Soulmasters, Noel Redding? Certainly not me! I also rate Big Tom as the King of Country Music. And PJ Murrihy, from Mullagh, Co. Clare, is one of Ireland's greatest vocalists. He also happens to be a thorough gentleman!

The Cost of Music

There is a hell of a good musician from the city, comes down our way sometimes, and does a gig in my local. Invariably when we meet, we speak of little else, only music. I met him over Xmas, and he to...

I Always Wanted to be a Comedian

Over Xmas, I had a bit of business in Youghal, and as I was driving home, coming into Castlemartyr, a call of nature was on the cards. Lo and behold, I spotted Pat Shortt's pub, and said to myself.. I...
