Bio:
Dialog is the alias of London based producer Andy Smith
He has developed a sound rooted in deephouse and downtempo electronica with an atmospheric, cinematic movie soundtrack vibe.
Tracks from Music for Imaginary Movies were first picked up by Dave Mothersole, who featured the demos on his show on Kiss FM. The album has since been released & has received good reviews from other DJ's & the press. More radio plays have been earnt including Nick Luscombe's Flo-motion show on XFM.
Dialog also performs Ableton Live mix sets. He has collaborated with VJ Andy Stone (Soxan), who provides semi improvised visuals at most gigs. Clips from their A/V collaboration are on this page. They have played at the Gazastock festival, Soxan, Lo-tek, the Festinho festival, Baked Beats, Digital City, the Big Chill House, The Luminaire and Turnmills.
Press Reviews:
I-DJ magazine: Dialog tug at the heartstrings with ease.......great smoking fodder for those post club or post work moments when you all you need is a big fat smoke and an aural massage.
CALMSCAPE: “Music For Imaginary Movies†brings a unique direction to the genre that up-and-comers will attempt to duplicate and avid enthusiasts will chill out with on many a warm breezy after-party night. Production artists in this genre often struggle to innovate, but Dialog has spun out a BT meets Schnauss inspired album with impressive layering and structure, and an attention to detail that separates it from the pack
Music-News.com: ...there is a diverse collection of styles on offer here. Most notably the future breaks of 'Abandoned' for me the pick of the eight tracks with a string led breakdown to die for. The remainder of the album rubs shoulders with progressive and deep house genres whilst keeping the uplifting, emotive breakdowns. 'Naultilus' is a killer of a track with it's deep throbbing bassline. 'Angel Trap' shows off Andy's chilled out side and final track 'Glitter' would fit perfectly into an episode of the x-files .....If you're a fan of deep atmospheric house music, this is a must
DJ Reviews:
Jeffrey Disastronaut: Deep House hasn't sounded better than this all year. A standout
Andy Holt (Redanka): Nice Summerness!! Nautilus is the pick of the bunch for me. Very cool.
Pathaan (BBC Asian Network): Loving this CD you sent me, more please.......Abandoned is a killer.
Plump DJ's: Great Music for after hours chillouts etc...nice one.
Mark Anthony (Velvet): very BT meets Rabbit in the Moon. Abandoned would fit perfectly at home on a Sasha & Digweed "Nothern Exposure" CD.....loving it.
Gordon Kaye: This is very well produced. My favorite is Abandoned. A lush dirty rolling break, bass heavy and subtle yet effective percussion. The moody synths are great too. Love it.
Anthony Pappa: cool tunes
Luis Paris: works a treat, great production & thumoin groove.
Drumattic Twins: wow. If only I was listening to this in Ibiza & not the UK. Great production, I can only as yet imagine how good these tracks sound watching the sun set.
Dean Facer: Superb set starter or for a change of direction......very, very nice.
Derek Taylor: this is superb....especially Abandoned. Really cool breaks.
Jim "Shaft" Ryan: excellent tracks
Mark Robinson: proper classy production throughout.
Steve Elliott (Olympic Radio): great ambient house slo-mo groove-simple yet effective. Late night lounge material. Love it.
Matt Storm: the peaceful vibe of Nautilus contrasts with the edginess of Abandoned. I like the early 90's synth touches of Nautilus.....love the bass.
Neil Matthew (resident DJ at Retro Quiz Night, The Pigrim, Billericky, Essex): All a bit moody & arty farty for me.
History
Dialog started life as a collaboration between producers Andy Smith & Alan Platten. They have collaborated on several musical projects over the years. 6 of the 8 tracks from Music for Imaginary Movies were co-written with Alan & his productions skills helped shape the Dialog sound in its formative version. He has since got married & moved to the States, but thanks to the joys of modern technology designed the album & website artwork. He is working on tracks under the moniker of "taoyoyo".
