Aurum Star is Christian Altman, Jake DeSouza, Eric Meyers and Chris Warren. Au*, as their fans have dubbed them, represents the current generation of dynamic, alternative rock music in Los Angeles. Everything from hip-hop to hard-rock influences can be heard in the group’s range. Their intuitive understanding of song structure and intricate rhythm makes for a truly original band with a unique, cutting edge sound.
The quartet hails from the San Fernando Valley with the exception of their drummer who is from the west side of Los Angeles, with ages ranging from 19-25. The wide range of diverse artists that have influenced Aurum Star include Incubus, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Stevie Wonder, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Fiona Apple, and Tool among others. While these influences can all be heard in Aurum Star’s powerful, eclectic sound, the band hears over and over from their avid following that they have never heard anything like this group. With so many pools of sound to tap into, one of the most impressive qualities that Aurum Star possesses is their ability to bring a steady and distinctive sound to both their CD and especially to their live performances.
The group has been a breath of fresh air to the music scene in the last two years with regular appearances at The Whisky, The Roxy, and The Mint to name a few. They are currently holding a residency at The Derby, where not only do they play every month, but they’re also in charge of booking all the other uniquely talented groups for the evening. The band’s community mentality carries over into these shows, bringing together fellow artists to perform off each other, as opposed to against each other, and filling the room with devoted fans. Their high-energy performances are a source of excitement for a wide age range of fans with varied musical tastes.
The band recorded their five-song EP “Reach†at the world famous Village Recorder in West Los Angeles in an impressive one-day live session. They were under the wing of producer, Porno For Pyros guitarist Peter DiStefano, and impressed everyone who entered the room, including Village Recorder CEO Jeff Greenberg. That session inspired the group to seek the guidance of professionals in the industry. All four members of Aurum Star became ASCAP members, and the group is seeking management representation. Au*s raw power, energy, charisma, skill, and drive is apparent on all fronts, adding up to a strong new band with huge potential for the current evolution of the music scene*
