Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, J. Wooten acquired his first taste of the spotlight in his senior year in high school as the host of the daily morning announcement team back in 1995. From there, he served in the US Army for 5 years, settling in as a Food Service Specialist. He came back home to New Jersey in 2000, beginning studies in mass communications at Rowan University, further honing his skills in what would soon become his life's work.
While pursuing other jobs within the realm of his career, he fell in love once again with music when he met up with a long time friend who had himself recently decided to make the jump into music production. The two turned into three soon after, linking up with another MC to form the duo "NycenWoo". During the next five years they stayed heavy on the grind, travelling from Delaware to West Chester to Philly and New Jersey performing & appearing on various AM and FM radio shows.
Though successful with minor underground status, J. Wooten's career is now primed for even bigger commercial success. Most recently, he dropped the compilation album "The No Sleep Kickoff" in 2005, a project he executive produced and put together by himself, and aside from establishing a distribution channel with all Sam Goody/FYE retail stores in the South Jersey area, he also secured a recording contract with indie label "Worldwide Kinetiic" to get an extra push for the project.
J. Wooten is currently pushing his highly anticipated sophmore album "Base, Rotation, Formation" this is his debut solo album which is currently slated for a Summer 2008 release. Seperating himself from all of his prior distractions he decided to time line this album from the end of 2005 until the begining of 2008 to show the progression from"WHO I WAS" to "WHO I AM" to "WHO I WILL BE". The album kicks off with "LET'S GET SERIOUS" which boldly states [just don't talk SH*T gotta EXECUTE], other songs such as "BEAUTIFUL" tell a more intimate side of his life-viewing the personal/family issue's. This verbal journey is also shown with songs like "SUGAR PIE" and "WHAT YOU NEED" in SUGAR PIE-he shows how being in multiple relationships can cause drama, and in WHAT YOU NEED-he shows how at the end of the day we are all looking for that one person to build with an create a "SOLID"foundation. His favorite personal affirmation is still "Fair Exchange is No Robbery" but now he knows what direction he is walking and can get there by himself if the situation calls for that.
Leaving no questions left unanswered, its safe to say that J. Wooten is destined to rise to the top!!
