Dr Ketchup

Dr Ketchup is a five piece instrumental project from Philadelphia consisting of Rhodes piano & organ, tenor sax, trumpet, bass, and drums. Throughout the band's history the line-up has also included vibraphones, and percussion. Over the last 10 years the band has seen a lot of changes but has retained its fundamental concept; the groove. The group has drawn inspiration from jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Lou Donaldson, and Miles Davis. Dr Ketchup's style is a balance between jazz structure and a funkified groove, a modal form of music that has been coined "Acid Jazz". Original compositions draw inspiration from Miles Davis' "On the Corner". The band also embraces the Boogaloo beats from the late 60's to create a jazz funk sound.Dr Ketchup have played just about every bar, juke joint, fly-by-night-spot, third floor walk-up, back yard bar-b-que, night club, and showroom in town that features live music. The band have always enjoyed being a part of area festivals including "Penn Rocks the Homeless", "Clark Park Summer Festival", "The Delaware Ice Cream Festival", and "The Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival" in New York City. They recently played a gig sponsored by Modern Drunkard Magazine. Dr Ketchup have opened for Groove Collective at The Trocadero, Robert Walter's Second Congress at the Khyber, as well as The Greyboy Allstars. They have collaborated with G. Love & Special Sauce, Phil Roy, Elliott Levine and King Britt. They got their Ivy vibe on when they played an 88.5 WXPN broadcast on "Live From the Writers House" as well as live performances on 91.7 WKDU. And they've been doin their thing at World Cafe Live. Their upcoming CD just came out this month. Dr Ketchup is all about making funky music for people to shake their booty and get their groove on wherever the joint may be. Come check 'em out.
