About Me

Vanya Rose immersed herself in theatre and visual arts from a very early age, spending her childhood between the classrooms of a French colonial school in Montreal, the wilds of the Eastern Townships, and the hallways of the Chelsea Hotel in NYC. After acting in and creating theatre productions with the Garrick Players for five years, Vanya began formal theatre training at 15 with Stanislavsky disciple Polina Klimovitskaya. Vanya continued her training at New York University in performance, however, after two years, changed her attention to directing, completing her degree at McGill University in English/Theatre studies with first class honours, and receiving numerous prizes for both her directing and stage adaptations. Parallel to her studies, she acted in film, allowing her the opportunity to observe the various approaches of numerous film directors from around the world, and further honed her drawing and photography skills. After spending a number of years living in London, Paris and throughout Italy where she created several theatre productions, she returned to Montreal in order to complete a master's in directing with an F.R.S.C. grant for excellence. She is presently completing Montreal Stories, three poetic portraits crossing the 20th century, and is writing the second draft of her first feature film The Montrealers (working title). Having grown up in the Golden Mile district of Montreal, she now lives in the Mile End area where she also houses her creation company time's thievish progress to eternity FILMS.
