SomeIcons.com Developing a mental illness was not part of my game plan - I had other ideas for my future - but this was not to happen.I developed a depressive mood disorder with psychosis in my first year at university. It saw me comatose with depression, self-harm and make myself vomit to punish myself. After many hospitalisations, I have at last achieved a recovery thanks to good treatment, support and self -management and my condition is stable.Following the publication of my autobiography about my journey to overcome my mental health challenge, The Cairn has now published the carer's account of The Naked Bird Watcher's journey of recovery with To Walk on Eggshells. At the Cairn we hope to raise further awareness of mental health and mental illness - for just as we all have physical health so we all have mental health - and for one in four of us that health will require medical support. The Cairn Team is now involved in raising awareness and education and for details of this please visit www.thecairn.com or email [email protected]. For further details of the work of The Cairn and its books please visit http://www.thecairn.comI am also a musician and song writer with Bad Alice - an acoustic duo that I formed with Lindsay Robertson. Our music and its themes are reflective but positive messages on mental distress, self-harm and the issues and challenges in our society that affect the young of today and make life so hard. I live in Argyll and Bute with my husband Michel Syrett.Bad Alice website is http://www.badalicemusic.com
