Since the early 90's Charles Widmore has contributed notably to hip-hop culture – from graffiti to break-dance. Through the latter, Widmore was first exposed to electronic music, culminating with the establishment in 2008 of his label Perplex Recordings. Inspired by the hip-hop movie "Wild Style," Widmore embraced spray-can art, subsequently forging a reputation as a impressive graf artist. In 1998, Viva TV recognized Charles Widmore’s talents in the renowned “Aerosol Art Battleâ€, launching a career in Communication Design work which endured for many years, finessing and developing his uniquely individual creative aesthetic.
In the mid-90's Charles Widmore first discovered the muscular, loop-based, dance-floor electronics of Josh Wink, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald and Daniel Bell. Impressed and immediately fascinated by both these sounds and by Berlin’s unique club-culture, (including legendary clubs such as Planet, E-Werk, Ostgut, WMF and Bunker), Widmore’s involvement in the scene increasingly deepened. Radio programs including André Langenfeld on DT64, the X-mix series of K7!, unique DJ-sets of Tanith, Wolle XDP and Ellen Allien as well as Steve Mason on BFBS London, fueled this passion. Wildmore was one of a new generation of DJs and ravers changed uniquely by this formative time.
Through cutting-edge and counter-cultural influences, Charles Widmore has grown musically astute and now is the creative pace-maker and leader of Perplex Recordings, a refreshing young Berlin vinyl label providing a dynamic platform for forward-thinking, deep and thoughtful contemporary house and techno music.

Anfang der 90'er begeisterte sich Charles Widmore für Hip Hop und dessen korrespondierende Sub-Genres wie Writing und Breakdance. Durch Letzteres kam Widmore erstmals mit elektronischer Musik in Berührung, welche den Ausgangspunkt für sein 2008 etabliertes Pattenlabel Perplex Recordings setzte. Überwältigt von dem wegweisenden Hip Hop Streifen „Wild Style“ griff Widmore vorerst zur Sprühdose und bewährte sich als überzeugender Graffiti-Künstler! 1998 gewann Charles Widmore das “Aerosol Art Battle“ auf dem Musiksender Viva. tv. Infolgedessen studierte er Kommunikationsdesign und arbeitete viele Jahre in diesem Metier.
Mitte der 90’er stieß Charles Widmore dann auf repetitive, strukturierte, straight für den Floor produzierte elektronische Musik von Josh Wink, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald und Daniel Bell welche nicht nur für ihn durchschlagend sein sollte. Bedeutsam prägend war auch Berlins Club-Szene (u.a. Planet, E-Werk, Ostgut, WMF and Bunker). Äußerst intensiv und positiv erinnert Charles Widmore sich an die Radiosendungen von André Langenfeld auf DT64, die X-Mix Serie von Studio! K7, die atypischen DJ-Sets von Tanith, Wolle XDP und Ellen Allien sowie Steve Mason's Sendung auf BFBS London, welche folgenschwer für eine ganze Generation DJs und Raver war.
Durch die gegenläufigen, subkulturellen Einflüsse ist Charles Widmore über die Jahre musikalisch ausgewachsen und ist jetzt der kreative Schrittmacher und Regent von Perplex Recordings, einem erfrischend tüchtigen Berliner Vinyl Label für elektronische Musik, welches Tiefe und Background mit gegenwartsnahem House und Techno verstandsmäßig verbindet.
