Sonic Scenery

About Me

Missed the exhibit? No problem. You can still experience Sonic Scenery by purchasing the CD and downloading it onto your iPod. Roam the exhibit halls while listening to each of the corresponding songs. A complete map of the galleries and songs is included with the CD. To purchase the CD or catalog w/the CD, visit: www.sonicscenery.com . A limited number of the Sonic Scenery T-shirts are also still available.
Sonic Scenery is a new kind of exhibit that invites you to see through music. 10 of the most innovative modern musicians and composers from a variety of styles were invited to compose music inspired by the gallery of their choice.
Now you can explore the Museum accompanied by a brand new soundtrack with music by the Sun Ra Arkestra, Ozomatli, Autolux, Nels Cline, Matmos, Stephen Hartke, Nobody, Jon Hassell, Languis, David J and an introduction by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
How does it work you ask?
Sonic Scenery is heard by headphones allowing you to choose your own route and pace through the exhibition.
It's easy. Just come down to the Natural History Museum then rent an audio system, headphones, and guide at the blue booth on level 1 of the Museum. Infrared signals automatically trigger each composition to play upon entering a gallery, allowing you to explore freely without pushing buttons (people seem to love not having to push buttons).
This is the first exhibit of its kind and it is only available until August 3rd so be sure to stop by the Natural History Museum this summer.
