If you hear one of this talented musician’s compositions, it will take you on a beautiful journey. He boasts a sound like no other. Anyone meeting Myke P. is sure to be impressed with many facts about this young man. Most shocking is the fact that he is only 23 years old. He has been musically inclined since childhood and he realized his musical calling in elementary school as he enjoyed being in the glee club for 2 years and chorus for 1 year.Myke P. grew up playing the guitar, drums, flute, and piano. From age 5, he wanted to be a drummer. However, when he learned to play the piano, somehow it sparked a new musical beginning.Straight out of High School, he performed in bands and with such artists as: The Dave Kline Band, Wayna; Neo-soul singer recording artist from D.C., Nimat from District Heights, M.D., singer, songwriter, guitarist and hair stylist- Alternative Neo Soul, Nod Factor; a multi-style band from D.C., and the up and coming TriFlava which includes Duke alumnus Christylez, Slyce-D and Myke P; himself.Myke P. also has the ability to compose music. He was selected to join the District of Columbia Public School Piano Competition, which he'd won second place in intermediate jazz; self composed piece called "Over the Wind".Myke P. eagerly participated in the S.E.A.S. summer program which allowed him to expand his singing, dancing, and acting talents. With the encouragement of Director Frederick Lee, Myke P. performed in his first play "Stepping Out, Black Not So Blue." After his graduation from Duke, he also co-starred in another production "Broadway to Hollywood -The Glory Years."To further his music education, Myke P. also attended the University of the District of Columbia .Myke P. is influenced by all genres of music from Classic Rock and Progressive Rock to Hip Hop and R&B. His favorite artists range from Michael Jackson, The Isley Brothers, James Brown, Al Jareau, and Mint Condition to George Duke, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, and Stanley Clarke. But the list does not stop there, he adds Ohio Players, the Commodores, Prince, Maxwell, The Mahavishnu Orchestra feauturing John Mclaughlin, Digital Underground, Public Enemy, Babyface, Jimi Hendrix, Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige, too. Myke P. proves to be as eclectic with his style of music as his favorite artists list.Myke P. says, "I know it's very competitive out there. Many talented musicians are waiting to be found, but the music industry sleeps on my hometown D.C. There's so much talent here that people are missing the true sounds of the city.â€Myke P. is the type of cat who would make you feel welcomed in his home, and he feels he is the ultimate when it comes to musical and lyrical creativity. As a result, he ensures that if you come out to a live performance a.k.a. his home, you will not leave disappointed.
