I am married to the love of my life. People in North Alabama know him as "Doc" That's a lot easier to remember and pronounce than Schedell. He is the sweetest guy EVER; my soulmate! We met in Waynesboro, MS when he moved there to finish high school. We were in the youth choir and ensemble at First Baptist Church together and our love began to grow there. After I graduated from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS and he from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, we were married on August 5, 1978. It was two weeks before he started Medical School in Jackson, MS and I started to Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. We have been through a lot together. There have been ups and downs, but my love for him has always remained. We are the parents of two young men. James is 24 and Micah is 21.
We were married 6 years before James was born. Being a wife and mother is all I can ever remember really wanting to be. And yet, we had no children. Some of the ladies in our church joined with me in prayer that God would give us a child. Then, it happened! We found out that we were expecting! Before James was born, one of the ladies in our church gave him a silverplated baby cup with "Our Prayer Baby" inscribed on the side. He was TRULY our prayer baby! We were (and are) SO blessed! I don't know if there has ever been a baby who was more wanted than he!
Then, a little over two years later, Micah came along. I was 5 months pregnant with Micah when Schedell and I went to what was then PTL. (This was just as the scandal was breaking out.) While we were there, a lady came up to me and asked me if she could pray for our unborn child. She laid her hand over my tummy and said the sweetest, most powerful prayer. I KNEW from that moment on that God had His hand on Micah in a special way. Micah had to be delivered prematurely because I was attacked with Toxemia/Pre-eclampsia. I had to be driven by ambulance (2 1/2 hour drive) to Jackson, MS for the delivery. I almost died. I had an out-of-body experience. (YES...they REALLY do happen...I wrote a blog about it.) But, Micah was a little trooper. He did just fine. God was with both of us.
In January of 2007 we had to have our precious poodle, Polly, put to sleep. She was 15 years old. Then, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2007, we had to have Mckenzie, our inquisitive, smart and absolutely sugar sweet Westie put to sleep. She was only 7 years old. We have really grieved over her death. I like to think that God has a place for our precious little angel dogs in heaven. Now we only have one West Highland White Terrier. My baby, Katie Bea is 5. AND, we still have Dudley Wigglesworth, the rescue mix Micah brought to us in the Fall of 2006. He is precious! Then, just before Christmas 2006, Micah bought a Siberian Husky. Her name is Shekinah (God's Glory). He left her here with us when he moved to Nashville. And we fell TOTALLY in love with her!
Micah's back home now and is attending school at NWSCC and is the Worship leader for The Ark, a church in downtown Florence. James is working full-time at Kleen Air Research and is constantly refining his skills on the electric guitar. He plays on the Praise & Worship team at The Ark with his brother. It blesses my heart to see God using our boys! I am excited to see what God has in store for them. I am one proud Mama!!
