About Me

Howdy! I'm Frank Meyer. I am a musician, producer, writer and author. For over a decade, I doubled as a touring rock musician in The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and as a writer/journalist for the likes of Variety, KNAC.com, POPsmear magazine, LA Weekly, Bizarre, New Times, and others.A few years back I took a position at G4tv, where I am now Sr. Interactive Content Producer. At G4, I created the multi-platform hip hop series Freestyle 101, which took home the 2008 Webby Award for Best Music Series. I also co-produce much of the music on Freestyle 101 with my music production team Messiaz (also featuring the great Bruce Duff) and serve as a gun-for-hire guitarist. In addition, along with pal Scott Chernoff, I wrote/directed/produced the TV series Videogame Theater for MTV Europe, which is currently airing on Escapistmagazine.com .
Along the way, I also co-wrote the book On the Road with The Ramones with the great Monte A. Melnick, worked with Dave Mustaine (Megadeth/Metallica) on his upcoming debut book, and edited Neil Zlozower's Van Halen: A Visual History: 1978-1984.
A little bit more about the music…My Freestyle 101 hip hop production credits include Ice-T, Lil’ Fame (M.O.P.), B-Real, Kool keith, Buckshot, Prodigy (Mobb Deep), Fat Joe, Sheek Louch (Lox), Master P, Romeo, Bizarre (D12), Pigeon John, Busdriver, Sean Price, Killah Priest, Devin the Dude, Sean Kingston, Planet Asia, The Pack, Gift of Gab, RBX, MC Frontalot, and many more. Messiaz has also worked with Saafir, Freddie Foxxx, Hell-Razah (Sunz of Man), Freestyle (Arsonists), Necro, Insane Poetry, Lord G, Neila, K-Rino, Dope-E of The Terrorists, Johnny Polygon, and many more. Rock production credits include Eddie Spaghetti (Supersuckers), Prima Donna, The Ladykillers, Thor the Rock Warrior, and more.
I fronted L.A. punk rawk 'n' rollers The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs , who formed in 1995, made 10 albums, appeared on 65 others, toured the world and backed rock legends Wayne Kramer (MC5), Sylvain Sylvain (NY Dolls), Cherie Currie (Runaways) and many other of our heroes. We split up in '02...kinda...we still do reunion shows once and awhile for kicks.
After the Cheetahs, I formed a band called Sweet Justice , which lasted a little over a year and yielded one album (Rolling Stone Editor's Choice, thank you), one trek to Spain, one tour with hero Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys) and gigs with the likes of Zeke, Rocket From the Tombs and others. Along the way I also played with artists such as Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Michael Des Barres (Silverhead, Detective, Power Station) and Bob Dorough (Schoolhouse Rock, Miles Davis).
Now I have a new band called Angus Khan , which features members of the SW Cheetahs, B Movie Rats, and ADZ himself. The sound is AC/DC meets Motorhead meets the Ramones meets the neutron bomb, and the stage show is a KISS vs. Crue inspired spectacle.
Whew! So...er, yeah, I tend to be a multi-tasker and involved in a bunch of stuff at once...but try to stay organized and find time to have fun and relax. I have a 4 ½ year-old daughter that is beyond incredible, whom I love with all my heart. She's the smartest, funniest person I know and will surely rule the world one day.
So why am I here at MySpace? Just lookin' to turn people onto my music, writing and art, make a few friends, whatever... so there you go.
I also also an official blogger for Yahoo's Nissan Live Sets series, where I covers concerts by artists like Velvet Revolver, Common, Evanescence, Jewell and Enrique Iglisias (random, I know). Check it out here
