WFM...RIP...Final Show July 10

About Me

From Andy Downing, Chicago Tribune, Local Sounds 11.28.08)
"On their Myspace site, the Wonderful Flying Machines boast that their music is "more intense than a pack of nuns fighting a bear." I'm not entirely sure what that means, but if dirty, primal cuts like "Balloons" and "Headphones" (both streaming at myspace.com/wonderfulflyingmachines) are any evidence, it's definitely fierce.
The trio, which got its name from a passage in a Dr. Seuss book, records raw-nerve rock that sounds like it was pounded out in someone's basement in a single afternoon. There's nothing fussy or pretentious about its sound. Just listen to the way John Zahnen (guitar/vocals) howls the chorus on "Song One," singing like a man who stuck around long past last call. Not to be outdone, Nick Hajek (drums) and Phil Golucki (bass/guitar) match the frontman step for step, laying down a frenetic, sledgehammer groove."
