About Me

I'm a Southern original, me thinks. The more people i meet the more i realize i'm not like them. And thank God! I have a fierce love of the land, the sea, my family, trees. I love being out of doors, walking in the woods, camping, swimming in fast rivers and a rough ocean. For the first time in modern memory, I think I have actually gotten my cold water fix for the year. I'm a news junkie and a journalist. But i think the modern media sucks and j-school is a waste of time and actually partly to blame for how much the media sucks today. I smoke too much; i sleep too much; i cuss too much but I'm working on that. i drink too much coffee. For some reason telling other people's stories means i tend to talk a bit much when I can, and share waaaay too much. I think I could be a great writer if I would just do it! I always try to do what is right and I enjoy helping people. I used to be quite selfish but i've learned to put other people's interests ahead of my own.

My Interests

Sailing, bicycling, trying to keep my goldfish alive in my super sweet water fountain. Enjoying this glorious world around us. Becoming crazy good with my new .38 special; devouring news magazines; loving God; wanting to change the world and make things better but lacking the gumption to do it. . . trying to be of use.

I'd like to meet:

People of honor and integrity. Mast-raisers. Aspiring Peachtree City mast-raisers and crew. Fellow cyclers and hikers and swimmers. And my true love. Otherjournalists who aren't jackasses (a tiny, tiny population)

Music:

Steve Earle, old Drive by Truckers, Pink Floyd, classical (what i mostly listen to in the car); Soul Coughing; celtic and Scottish music, something with a beat you can dance to. anything with bagpipes. . .

Movies:

Jaws, Dracula, Lady Jane, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou, Gone with the Wind, A River Runs Through It (just saw that one again after many years), Quills. finally got to watch Joe Dirt the other day from start to finish. That is a damn fine movie. Really enjoyed The Blood Diamond and 300.

Television:

King of the Hill, Scrubs, History Channell,- American Eats, modern marvels, ancient marvels, secrets of the Bible, etc.

Books:

My abosolute favorite book is The Prince of Tides. Folks say 'oh, i've seen the move." Well, the movie is junk. It only covers about 10 percent of the story. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan too, love The Hobbit, The Cider House Rules - with the same caveat as Prince of Tides. To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm a newspaper and magazine junkie- The Week, Smithsonian, Geographic. Have to limit the novel reading, because I get so into them that I really can't function until i'm done.

First Fire
