About Me

I'm Phil, and I built this place.nuphobia is a professional audio production facility in Kreuzberg, Berlin, in a roomy, sunny space. We do music, and sound for TV, film, and advertisement. My aim in putting the studio together was to combine the best of all my previous studios with all the potential of the new place, leaving out the problems that I've learned about along the way...Customers of my last studio often told me that they loved the "homey" feel of the place; they felt comfortable working there, and weren't so nervous about screwing up, as they had been in stuffier commercial studios. This to me was highest praise, because having been a musician myself for so many years I know exactly how damaging nervousness can be when you're trying to make music. But there was also a DIY aspect to the old studio which has now disappeared. I'll have to admit: I carry the DIY ethic to an absurd extreme. I have invented the wheel so many times it hurts... But the old studio grew haphazardly, into a sort of unorganised octopus, and I have to admit that at times it seemed less than professional, like a place you don't want to take altogether seriously. Not so nuphobia. This is an efficient, professional recording studio offering the highest quality in a comfortable environment conducive to getting the job done. And it's cheap, because Berlin is cash poor. If you're serious and human, you probably can't afford not to do your next audio production here.
