Miami-Dade robbery victim dies of wounds five weeks later A 26-year-old man spent more than five weeks recovering from bullet wounds, then collapsed and died. BY DAVID OVALLE [email protected] Evol Anthony Mclarty, 26, spent almost a month recovering from gunshot wounds inflicted by mysterious robbers before he was released from the hospital on New Year's Eve.But Friday, he fell sick, slipped from his wheelchair, and within hours was declared dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.''I always thought he was going to make it. I knew he was a fighter,'' said his sister, Kery Raffington, 23.Miami Gardens detectives must now solve his murder.A Comcast-contracted cable man, Mclarty graduated from American Senior High School in northwest Miami-Dade and was father to a 3-year-old son. He lived with his sister at the Crystal Lake apartments, 21000 NW 22nd Ave.About 1:30 a.m. Dec. 3, someone summoned him outside. He later said that robbers tried to storm the apartment, but that he locked the door and stayed outside to fight them off.''He actually saved my life. He knew I was inside, sleeping,'' Raffington said.Said Miami Gardens Sgt. Dave Simmons: ....His sister heard several gunshots and heard her brother call out to her.''After several major surgeries, Mclarty returned home on New Year's Eve, happy to watch the college football bowl games, but he was hospitalized briefly two days later. On Friday at home, he complained of feeling tired. Shaking, bleeding internally, he fell from his wheelchair. His family rushed him to Jackson, where he was pronounced dead.
