About Me

Well, once again I'm trying to write my "About Me" section and to not sound fake while doing it. I was very shy growing up, and I'm still kind of shy, but I do enjoy meeting new people. I'm at a point right now where I'm just trying to take life day by day. The blogs I've written are very important to me -- if you decide to peruse, it might help to read them in chronological order (sometimes they build on each other). I'm very sentimental and I love animals. I've been told by a few different people that I have a talent for "reading" people. I think it's partially genetic (my mother can also read people) and partially honed from years of sitting back and observing people before getting to know them. Biggest weakness: As one of my best friends says --I think WAY too much (constantly overanalyzing). Oh, and there's that procrastination thing, too. Anyway, whoever you are, I hope that you're having a great day or evening! Thanks for visiting and God bless!

My Interests

Writing, reading, travel, decorating, learning languages, Route 66, listening to the birds when I wake up in the morning. I have always loved animals and I always will. From time to time I enjoy aimlessly browsing MySpace for interesting blogs and adding to my subscription list.

I'd like to meet:

I have friends from many different cultures and backgrounds, and am open to meeting pretty much anyone who is sweet and quirky. If I meet someone who has been described to me as "kind of different" or "offbeat," I find that I usually end up liking the person. I'm also very interested in meeting anyone who has experienced binge eating disorder, either personally or secondhand. I would like to catch up with long-lost high school or college friends, too. Finally, if you can explain to me why my MySpace map on my friend's computer says that I have a large number of hits but my MySpace map on MY computer says I've only had eight hits, I'd love to talk to you. I've only had the map for about a week, and I'm already completely obsessed with it. j/k :) Other than that, as long as you have a good heart, I'd enjoy hearing from you.

Music:

I listen mostly to rap (my favorite album in high school was Public Enemy's "Apocolypse 91)." I also like classic rock, some jazz and classical music, some reggaeton, and pretty much any song that triggers a great memory from when I was a child.

Movies:

adopt your own virtual pet!Movies I Like: Young Frankenstein; The Straight Story; Amores Perros; Dorian Gray; Waking Ned Devine; March of the Penguins; Old Yeller.

Television:

Lost; New Tricks; Independent Lens; Criminal Minds; Charlie Rose; most documentaries; Mystery Science Theater 3000; Antiques Roadshow.

Books:

Nine Stories; Winesburg, Ohio; Wuthering Heights; The Secret Garden; The Metamorphosis; Desiree's Baby. I've always enjoyed reading pretty much anything by Agatha Christie, too. I also like Illinois author Troy Taylor's books on hauntings and the supernatural.

Heroes:

Jimmy Carter; Elijah Lovejoy; Paul Simon (I saw him several times on the SIUC campus and he always smiled and waved even though he didn't know me); Ted McMillian; Salman Rushdie; Eleanor Roosevelt; Mr. Rogers. Also a baby I saw on a website who passed away at six months of age from Spinal Muscular Atrophy -- based on all of the people who derive inspiration from him, I think he's a hero too... .. .."http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/s wflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="500" height="410" ..

I'm pleased but conflicted to say that I went to weigh in at my doctor's office today and found that I've lost fifteen pounds since my last visit (the one mentioned in a previous blog).  I'm...
