The Opskamatrists, a local ska band, originally formed in December 1998, under the name Super Skank. The original members of the band were Bruce Christensen (vocals/trumpet); Chad Christensen (guitar/vocals); Kory Johnson (trombone/vocals); Brad Beckwith (bass); and Craig Christensen (drums). They played together for about a year and a half, recording their first album, Cats Puke, Dogs Eat It, in July of 2000. Later that summer, Bruce left on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the band broke up.
. When Bruce returned home, he and Chad decided it was time to play a little ska again. They found bassist Brian Clayton and trombone player Adam Nelson.. Then a few weeks later they found Mike Fink to play drums. On October 30, 2003 they played a successful come back show at R-Skating in Rexburg, ID.. Shortly after that they brought in a second trombone player, Danny Arnold . In January of 2004, the band officially changed their name to The Opskamatrists ..
Since the reconstruction of the band nearly four years ago, The Opskamatrists have had great success in the South East Idaho music scene. They have competed in several different local band competitions:
Chesbro Music Battle of the Bands, winning 1st place in 2005 and 2nd place in 2006.,
ISU’s Pokapalooza, winning 1st place in 2005 and 2nd place in 2006.
Ifapalooza winning 1st place in 2007.
BYU-Idaho’s Guitars Unplugged winning best original song in 2004.
The Opskamatrists have been featured several times on local radio station KBEAR 101’s “For Locals Onlyâ€, as well as Idaho Falls former station 98X.
After a long recording process, The Opskamatrists have finished their full length self-titled album. The album will be released on March 29, 2007.
