About Me

Chuck Fields Drums and Percussion. Starting out at the age of 5, there was little doubt what young Chuck wanted to do; play the drums and make music. Early influences such as Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, Vinnie Coliuta, Phil Collins, and Dennis Chambers, kept the fire burning as he graduated with a music degree from Memphis State. For the next few years he played the Memphis music scene and toured and played with jazz greats, Jimmy Heath, Herb Ellis, Phineas Newborn Jr., and Herman Greene to name a few. For 10 years he was a sought after teacher at the world renowned Memphis Drum Shop. Then after a move to Nashville, Chuck landed a gig at Opryland Theme Park, which led to touring and recording gigs with Mike Griffin, Mark Selby, Chris Cummings, Paul Brandt, Allison Brown, and Martina McBride to name a few. Currently (and for the past 5 & _ years) Chuck is the touring drummer for platinum selling country artist Terri Clark. He is currently a Pearl Drums, Aquarian Drumheads and Zildjain Cymbals endorser. With fat groove in any style, swing for days, touch AND power, and a unique soloing style that will melt your face, Chuck is TRIOSHIFTs backbone and secret weapon.

Tony Nagy Bass Guitar Graduating from the University of Kentucky as a tuba performance major, Tony set out to make a living as an electric bassist. An impressive resume includes jazz performances with Dave Samuels (of Spyrogyra), Vinnie Coliuta, David Mancini, Jeff Coffin, and Norbert Goldberg to name a few. He has toured and/or appeared on recordings by Lee Roy Parnell, Mark Selby, Jameson Clark, Terri Clark, and Stealin Horses to name a few. Tony has also appeared on the Grammy nominated recordings Tribute to Mississippi John Hurt, and Lynne Marie and the Boxhounds. Tony has been involved with many projects ranging from blues to bluegrass, and from rock to funk and lots of jazz. Tonys tone is fat and tight, and his style is in the pocket, tasty, and funky, with the right touch of white-hot chops..
.
John Cook Guitar After playing guitar for 15 years, in 1992 (at the tender age of 29) John finally answered the call of his muse and turned to the music business to make a living. John has performed with Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, The Kentucky Headhunters, Sugar Blue and the Chicago Blues All-Stars, and Herbie Hancock to name a few. Johns bands have shared stages with artists as diverse as Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Ko Ko Taylor and her Blues Machine, Ken Mellons, Lorrie Morgan, David Allan Coe, and Crystal Gayle to name a few. Johns compositions and performances have been used in local, regional, and national television and radio ads as well as globally syndicated T.V. programs and video arcade games. John uses a wide palette of guitar tones and has a style that is melodic, grooving, and full of energy, chops and sweat. .

Sounds Like: The language of an instrumental music band is usually defined by a) its leader, b) the style and category of music, or c) its instrumentation. Organics may play a part, but they aren't usually a major concern or catalyst. But after one has been in the music business a while and something organic and real and special comes along, you want to share it wtih the world. TRIOSHIFT is a group of three men who create something special when they play together and when they write together. Their language is truly their own, and it comes from chemistry, experience, knowledge, sweat, voodoo, soul; all that stuff. When these three guys landed upon something they could not create with anyone else, they recognized.

Musicians of all types usually dislike categories, so let's call it a description. TRIOSHIFT makes ELECTRONIC AMERICAN INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC. Is it Jazz? Improvising over form is in almost every tune and that certainly comes from a jazz place. Harmonically and melodically speaking a lot of it is jazz as one of their tunes is directly based on latter period Miles Davis' harmonic concepts. But the Jazz police will certainly frown and scowl. Is it Rock? With lots of different electric guitar tones, an electric bass, and a big fat drum set, some might hear that. An early tentative title to one of their tunes was even called "Big Dumb Rock". Metal heads won't be head banging though. Is it Blues? All American music starts with the blues, doesn't it? They even wrote a blues tune about having a sinus headache. It doesn't sound like Buddy Guy though. Is it Funky? Why yes Virginia, there is a strong funk element in some of their tunes. Not so much in others. Dissonance is an element of American music, what about that? Yep. It's splashed in there too.
