Klava

Klava are a two-man band, (well one woman and one bloke), who have only been together since July 2005.Rhian Edwards (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), was and still is a prominent performance poet on the London scene, having won the UK's first Poetry Idol Competition and having recently been nominated Top London Performance Poet 2005. (Results come out on 11 Jan). Unsurprisingly, Rhian is the lyrical driving force behind this band, whose playful child-like voice, coupled with the dark poetry that often underpins her lyrics, make Klava one of the most unique voices to have emerged out of London in recent years.Clayton Fussell (lead guitar and backing vocals) is the versatile dexterous and technical genius behind Klava. Having orginally trained to be a neurologist, he then won a scholarship to one of the most prestigious performance colleges in London, where he met Rhian and their collaboration begun. Despite his humble death metal beginnings, Clay brings the fleshy complexity to Rhian's otherwise skeletal simplicity. In the same vein, Clay's vocal quality lends itself beautifully to the haunting character of Klava, often providing the male riposte to Rhian's attacks. Together their harmonies range from the sublime to borderline psychotic.
