Alice e il Bruco si guardarono l'un l'altro in silenzio per un po' di tempo. Finalmente il Bruco, togliendosi la pipa di bocca, si rivolse ad Alice e, con voce stanca e strascicata, le chiese: "Chi sei tu?". Come principio per una conversazione, certo non era molto invitante. Alice titubò un momento, poi disse: "Io... io non so più.. esattamente chi sia, dopo tutto quello che mi è capitato oggi... So chi ero stamattina, ma poi sono diventata un'altra e questo per parecchie volte...".
