About Me

With tight bonds as far back as the early 90s, Matr6 (pronounced Ma-trix) honed rhythm and rhyming skills sitting at cafeteria tables and corner stores. Born in New York, bred in Ft. Lauderdale,, Matr6--members Brimstone and Jedi-- gleaned lyrical style and content from varied artists like Jay-Z, 2PAC, Notorious B.I.G. and Nas. Having roots in NY, but with feet planted in Ft. Lauderdale, their slang, mannerisms, and experiences mirror those of youth in any region, creating a universal sound. Their music, described as Dirty South with an Up North flow creating the New South sound, shows these are not carbon copies of Northern rappers trying to cash in on the influx of Southern music. Their motley repertoire include ones with a hip-hop vibe (Ride With a Thug) to street-inspired (Get it off Your Chest produced by Jim Jonsin). Never limiting themselves to one topic or style, these lyrical wordsmiths establish their multi-faceted personalities and ideas in their diverse music.
Breathing new life into the stale arena of hip hop, Matr6 has garnered a cult following in Florida. Backed by young black entrepreneurs City Streets Records, Matr6's music is the yellow brick road out of the hood. Radios tuned to 102 JAMZ and 99 JAMZ are afforded the opportunity to hear Matr6 in Orlando and Miami, respectively. Currently, Matr6 is putting the final touches on their latest mixtape, “Unloaded: Vol. 2 Hosted by DJ Ideal” the follow-up to Vol. 1, hosted by DJ Khaled. Having collaborations with artists ranging from Layzie Bone to Rick Ross these boys have the support of many industry figures in creating a change in the mainstream.
The name Matr6 was created by passed founding member Trig; the significance and impact of the Matrix trilogy to the art of cinema is juxtaposed to that of Matr6s imminent domination over hip hop. The six relates to the street by the park this group of hustlers used to hang, as well as the slogan "Wit' it or take six." Slain in a senseless shooting in 2005, every effort put forth is in Trigs memory. With the DJ Khaled mix-tape circulating as far as England, the buzz on these unknowns is ringing. Seeking production from hit-makers DJ Nasty (Ludacris), Swift (Scarface), Papa Duck (Bun B), Oddz.N.Endzz (Lil Wayne), Capo (J-Kwon) and up and comers Pretty Boi Fresh and Animal, the New South sound is coming; are you ready?
