Mighty Max is the name that he has earned for his deep dedication to music and his ability to bang out some banging tracks for recording artists and network commercial spots. But Max Perez always had a mighty love for music. Max has worked with so many people in the business that his listing of talents reads like a night at the Grammys.Thats a far cry from the streets of the Bronx, where all he had access to street life and crime. But music pulled him through, first in the form of the marching band at age 5. Max got bitten by the bug. Luckily, hip-hop came along and break-dancing changed his future. I fell in love with breakdancing and loved the status of being ghetto famous. As a member of the East Bronx Breakers, Max was recognized on every corner in the hood. But Max knew that he wanted more. He went looking for and secured an internship, at 17, at SUPERDUPE RECORDINGS, which was post-production facility. That meant that I was on the other side of the recording process, but the equipment was the same. It was a great learning experience. From there, Max has been a recording artist, as both a group member and solo act, and has used that exposure to learn (working with Robert Clivilles of CLIVILLES AND COLE fame and others) and become a solid and significant producer in urban music. He served as Executive Producer on MVP and Stagga Lee projects, one of which earned him a SESAC award in 2003. He says of that award that it helped me to realize that hard work can really pay off. But it was the opportunity to work as Senior Audio Technician at Black Entertainment Television (BET) that has expanded his base of knowledge and creativity and made him clear about what he wants to do with his musical talents.Now, with MIGHTY ONE MUSIC, Max Perez is preparing to more than just produce the audio for everybody from LL COOL J and JILL SCOTT to MARY J. BLIGE and BUSTA RHYMES when they take the stage at 106 and Park. Hes readying artists of his own who may one day take that same stage. When I see an artist I like, I put my all in it, the whole aspect. I feel like MIGHTY ONE MUSIC is going to go back to artist development. I concentrate on their flow, their performances, songs, their look. Im involved like a label. Right now, I am focusing my energy on URBAN LATIN artists, but not just reggaeton. Max is excited about MIGHTY ONE MUSIC and especially CARMEN, his first artist.I found her after a friendof mine Terrence at BET sent her my way, because I was just really looking for songwriters. When we met, she took about 10 tracks and called me 2 days later and had finished writing to ALL TEN TRACKS. But the crazy thing was that of the ten tracks, NINE OF THEM WERE SOLID SONGS. We went to demo the songs and she sang them in the studio. Her passion and connection to the songs was so strong that I decided that this was more than just a production thing. MIGHTY ONE MUSIC had found its first artist. Carmens first single SWEAT featuring another BET connectionBIG TIGGER! The track is hot and Carmen is definitely bringing strong vocals and a look thats perfect for the market today. Shes on fire! Tracks like MUSIC, HAVENT WE and CRUSHIN proved to Max that her combination of J-Lo meets Keyshia Cole was exactly what the industry was looking for and set up MIGHTY ONE MUSIC to introduce her to the world.As for MIGHTY ONE MUSIC itself, Max wants to keep the label small, so that he can put the time and attention into each act and help them grow. Working with such icons as Wyclef (We met and invited me to the studio to work on a track for a new artist hes got coming out named TRINI. He loved the tracks and we wrote the hook for one of the singles together. It was really inspiring to work with somebody at that level.), doing commercials for BudWeiser and even preparing to score for films.I just want people to feel what Im feeling when I feel music. I want that passion to come across and that excitement. In a time when people are being copy-cats and cookie-cutters in music production, MAX PEREZ is still excited about music. With producers like him on the scene, music itself has something to be excited about because MIGHTY ONE is the name of the kid who is preparing to take the court. Beware yall, cuz MIGHTY ONE is bringing its A game!
