The project now known as Avariel was created by Michael Rose in September 2004. Michael began his search for musicians immediately and in October '04, found singer Shannon Kelly. Together, the two began writing and recording demo versions of songs. The songs they wrote were based in gothic, keyboard-oriented metal. Some of these were to later become the first Avariel songs.
In April 2005, Mike and Shannon welcomed drummer Jay Narbonne to the lineup. Jay's metal drumming experience with previous bands made him a worthy addition to the group. Together, they continued to refine their symphonic metal style.
In November of the same year, the three joined forces with guitarist Scott McDonald, and the songwriting began to take off in new directions.
The band spent most of 2006 writing, rehearsing and recording a demo, which was released in October of that year. Self-produced (and aptly titled), ">
Most of 2007 found Avariel honing their skills on several stages around the Boston/Worcester, MA area, with increasingly positive responses. In December 2007, they finished the songwriting for a full-length album. Recording began in February 2008, and is expected to be released in April 2009.
