If it don't groove, I can't move

About Me

With a dose of 'Melodic Groove Fusion', KdCs debut album Urban Survivalist reflects the soul of a sensitive and talented artist, musician, songwriter and producer. KdC (or Kearon de Clouet) plays most of the instruments on his record accompanying up to dozens of layered tracks of his own backing vocals. Many listeners are surprised to find that KdC is, in fact, a skinny white guy from Australia. "As a kid, I was surrounded by good 'ol 'Aussie rock' - and I felt like a complete outsider. Even though I knew I was into music - I could never make an emotional attachment to what I heard being played around me." Then he discovered Stevie Wonder, and the myriad of other Motown artists.Does he feel like a pretender, building a following on vocal styles made famous by the likes of Marvyn Gaye and Curtis Mayfield? "Does anyone ask a black singer who does opera if they feel like they're ripping off Pavarotti?". Quite.Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter KdC toured in his school choir at 11, but wanted to be a drummer. "The first record I owned was an old pressing of the Beatles "A Hard Days night". I used to play it on my little plastic red and white record player when I was 6 years old, and beat pots and pans with wooden spoons until my Mum couldn't handle it anymore!". When it became clear that he was NOT going to own a drumkit, he was given violin and even euphonium lessons. A breakthrough came with the guitar. "I figured at least I could play Beatles songs, and sing at the same time..."His early teens saw KdC recording multi-layered vocal tracks on an old 4-track reel to reel he found at a local garage sale. "It cost me 10 bucks - a huge amount to me as a kid, and I only had about 5 reels of tape that I'd use over and over, but I learned how to bounce tracks around on that tape recorder to get a sound that was bigger than just me alone. That clinched it for me - I knew what I wanted to do with my life!"Working professionally as a recording engineer and producer since 1993, KdC now brings his soul and production talent to you in this release, "Urban Survivalist".
