About Me

A bit about me: I am completely and unreservedly in love with MUSIC. Music is my passion, my favorite pass-time, my job, my release, my high, my worship to my Jesus, my joy, my heart, my satisfaction, I breathe it, live it, write it, sing it, practice it, memorize it, perform it, explore it…. Music gives me that cozy warm feeling, you feel with a first kiss, or take a hot shower after being in freezing cold rain or something.I live in Memphis. I went to school there for songwriting and vocal performance. I’m moving to Nashville soon. I grew up in Oostburg, WI. My sister and I make up the musical duo we are today, called Bethilea. She is my other half, what helps keep me together, sane, humble, focused and alwyas wanting to be better. There is nothing in the would more precious to my sisters. I have 3.When I was little, when all my friends talked about what they wanted to “be” when they grew up, doctors, teachers, zoo keepers and such, I consistently had the same answer. “I want to be a singer”. Well, I grew up (or at least I hope I am worthy to be called a grown up by now) and singing is exactly what I do. I am doing, right now, everything I have ever desired to do musically, and we are only at the beginning of what is quickly transpiring into something even greater. I am eternally grateful to everyone and everything that has gotten me here thus far. Blessings have not been scarce around here (and for these, I consider myself most unworthy).I don’t like to talk into a microphone. I’m not the best with words. They flow out of my mouth better when they rhyme and I’d much rather sing them. If you leave one of our shows still unsure if you know me, you’re wrong. Only because I just shared with you, the very inmost parts of my heart, the depths of my soul, my favorite memories and my greatest struggles. Yes, all in approximately 4 minute segments, but you might have as well read my diary from the last 23 years of my life if you listened to my songs.I adore my guitar, and there is nothing like taking my anger out on cold piano keys. I feel better when my guitar is in my arms. My fingers are calloused. I play too much in the key of G. Singing on stage is home to me. When I go to concerts, as much as I enjoy them, I also can’t wait for them to be done so I can go home and play and write another song. They inspire me.I love my life. I love to love.I once heard a man say, “Music is the best means of relaying a message directly from ones mind into ones soul.” What I write, is what I believe, what makes me, me. I would love to talk to you about it!......................................................... ............................................................ .....................................................Officia l Bio: With roots in northern Wisconsin folk and Memphis blues, sisters, Bethany and Leah Gulke, bring a bright new appeal to country music. There is a certain unique clarity to their voices when they sing, that captivates an audience. Being sisters, Bethany, a pure soprano, and Leah, a soulful alto, they compliment each other, bringing effortless quality to their harmonies.Bethany and Leah grew up in a small mid-eastern town in WI, called Oostburg. Bethany recognized her passion for being a singer/songwriter early on in her childhood, playing piano and classical guitar. In 2004, in pursuit of more training and a more thriving musical atmosphere, she moved to Memphis, TN. There, she worked on her vocal performance and songwriting studies under accomplished songwriter and Memphis native, Ken Steorts. Leah began realizing, her talent and love for singing during high school when encouraged to participate in musical theatre and an advanced show choir. It wasn’t until, shortly after high school in 2007, that she moved to Memphis with her sister after deciding to take her musical passion a step further as well. There, they combined their individual folk and broadway musical styles creating the unique sounding duo they are today.Live @ 9
