Born a small, fierce critter in the midst of hollywood sharpshooters, free range records is a label that doesn’t believe in small spaces. We prefer wide open ones, so our motto is “Don’t Fence Me Inâ€.

If you are like us (you know- smart, creative, and really freakin hip),
you are likely to say “all kinds of music.â€
You just like music that’s good. We like music that is good.
It can be played in a bar, a living room, a club, a stadium, on the radio (sure), on an ipod (more likely).
We like great songs that can stand on their own, we also know that sometimes great music can be filled with words you don’t even understand. It has a vibe, seeps in to your chakras, it transcends the time and place you are in. It can be slow and sultry, quiet and reverent, loud and edgy, shakin and grindin’, bluesy and funky. But for cryin out loud, it better get us where we live.
Free Range Records is the home of Singer/Songwriter amilia k spicer.
Spicer's songwriting fuses together influences from the different places she calls home- the languid textures of rural Pennsylvania, the swing and melody of Texas Americana, with an edgy turbulent LA bite. Part Beethoven, Part Bohemian. That dichotomy lets you discover nuances with every listen. She’s probably best known for her moody, cinematic work, which elicits comparisons to Daniel Lanois and Leonard Cohen, but there are other facets to her songwriting that show a scrappy, quirky side. You'll see that sly grin many times on stage and in her lyrics. Is it folk, rock, pop, alternative, acoustic, americana? Yes. You have probably heard her, even if you didn’t know it - in movies, HBO, Showtime, Network TV, heck maybe outside your window ...
but that’s not really our problem.
Solo on a piano, rocking with a band, anywhere she’s singing you can hear a pin drop, and in between her haunting songs, she’ll charm you with her off kilter stories and “kittywampus†ways.
Therefore, she has the official title of Free Range Artist.
We are based in Los Angeles, with an office in Washington DC, a favorite porch in Austin, Texas, and lots of friends in states in between. In time, we may expand our roster to include like minded songwriters. We certainly celebrate the many talented artists we do know, and hope you support indie music with fervor and aplomb.
