About Me

Hi this is Laura and Nicola, this is our myspace fan site dedicated to Deeyah and what she stands for. About a year ago we met Deeyah in London--in, of all places-- Selfridges. (We were having our quarterly girly retail therapy.) At first Nixs (Nicola) thought she was Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas. She was so excited that she almost wet herself! (Honestly she was about to have a panic attack.) We decided to go up to her. Of course we realised soon enough that Deeyah was not Fergie --but Nixs was still very excited and decided to talk to her anyway (and explain why she had come running up to her). I guess we were struck initially by Deeyah's genuine and polite nature. She was so down to earth and actually took the time to have a chat with us (even with the mistaken identity). I remember her asking what we'd bought and she loved my handbag and she said Nixs was sweet! She then gave us autographs, which was great! And told us that she keeps in touch with fans and people through her website. Of course we didn't believe her because she's a singer and has the looks of a supermodel so we decided to email her and yes, sure enough she did reply and remembered who we were. Since then we have both been pretty much OBSESSED with this lady. We've read literally every article written about her and tuned into every radio and TV appearance. Other than loving Deeyah's personality, MUSIC and her fashion sense, we PARTICULARLY support and are passionate about what Deeyah stands for and the extraordinary work that she is doing through her music. So after making a long story even longer... We have decided to create this shrine for Deeyah and want to tell everyone we can about this amazing young woman and spread the word about her message and how important we feel she is in the current climate we are all living in. Enjoy and join us in the Deeyah movement!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

DEEYAH the voice of change breaking through the walls of sexism, violence and racism

At last somebody Breaking deadly silences about female oppression in the name of "honour"
DEEYAH dubbed the Muslim Madonna by the UK media, now after 10 years of silence, living in fear and intimidation, finally speaks out through her music and video.

Deeyah, of Muslim background herself is sending a powerful message in her music concerning the rights of women from all faiths and cultures---to speak openly about social issues, sexuality, empowerment-- and to lead their lives the way they choose without the fear of reprisals or judgment by religious or cultural fanatics.

Deeyah's music video for ‘What Will It Be?’ is of a controversial nature, featuring images of women who have endeavoured to step over the line of tradition and typical role of what’s expected of them and as a result have suffered horrifically for their choices. Speaking directly to the hearts of thousands Deeyah raises the question about Freedom of expression and Women’s Rights through her music.

To view Deeyah's powerful music video online now visit:

Despite being faced with continuous abuse, threats of violence and prejudice Deeyah stands defiant representing truth, compassion, intelligence, talent and courage. This clearly makes Deeyah truly inspirational and a heroine a symbol of freedom and femininity.

Please show your support and help us spread the word about Deeyah's message and struggle to other like-minded people
