I am here for Friends

About Me

Iron is my patron element. For that reason, I have an intense dislike for the 'band' Iron & Wine for sullying the otherwise unblemished, if not shining, reputation of the mighty Fe. OldNew RustyShinyI do inexplicable things, both good and bad. Somehow, the distribution of each doesn't correlate (directly or indirectly) to the consumption of alchohol and/or caffeine. I'm a card-carrying fan of both the 64oz OE and the 'quad' espresso, and that should be indicative of my general mentality. I think of witty things to say, and then can't remember them five minutes later, which is probably related to that 'quad' espresso thing. Most of my friends marvel at my ability to simultaneously be both a role model and the friend that they can use to scare people. I evolve, but tend to keep more than a trace of the DNA of who I've always been.In the spirit of disclosure I should note that despite my nickname of Punk Rock Jon, I have not had a mohawk or dyed hair since I was 14 and I don't own a leather jacket. Let's call it a fondness for the element of "Surprise!" (or...Bammmm!)This is truth: you will both love and fear Beermageddon. I spew a steady stream of profanity, and maybe even enjoy it. But I don't apologize for it. I live with the volume at 11...Love It or Leave It.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People that won't bother me. People who can calculate their share of a tab. And not have to be told that they owe sales tax and part of the tip. People who aren't afraid of Beermageddon. People who can double-clutch. People who don't drive SUV's with bullshit chrome or compact cars with bullshit chrome. People who know that chrome is bullshit. People who can appreciate fine food and a Schaefer in the same sitting. People whose profile pages don't take twenty fucking minutes to load. People who think "What would be 'Gonzo' in this situation?"

My Blog

The end of 2008 is already near.

In an effort to one-up themselves before the end of 2007, and quite possibly provide a comic mirror to the ACLU, the RIAA has actually sued someone for ripping songs from legally-purchased CD's to the...

Consumer.

I'm doing my best to rev up the holiday spirit.  However, ludditic tendencies (band name!) keep me off of the Version 2000.7 Conspicuous Consumption bandwagon.  My best attemp...

Yes,

The flashing candle next to my name indicates that I will be turning 32 next weekend. I will be 'celebrating' at Freeway Lanes, in Zelienople.  The bartender will be well-tipped in order to refus...

Privilege Revoked.

I got the Los Crudos discography cd today.  Something is particularly wrong with having it on CD, and probably more wrong since I got it with the intention of putting it on the brain-eater, Jr.&n...

Wow.

Today was pretty rad.  Or at least a few hours of it. Work was unremarkable, though we, and two other union contractors, lost a $2M bid to a non-union contractor, which is worth a un-respond...

Samiam.

I think I might have been too harsh on the latest Samiam record, "Whatever's Got You Down".  True, its not the best Samiam record, nor even consistently good, but it has some high points.  ...

Listenings

Stinking Lizaveta: Scream of the Iron Iconoclast.  I think this is their best record yet, by far.  The sound is on, the recording is on, the songs rip.  In my new life as a jaded too-ol...

You can dress up a monkey, but it will still smell like a monkey.

Some of you know that I work on a concert series in NYC called East River Music Project, or ERMP. We put the concerts on in a restored amphitheatre on the East River in Manhattan (near the Williamsbu...

The Joys of Blogging?

So, I think these are bloggy stories. I still can't believe I am using versions of 'blog' in my vocabulary. Yesterday I got a flat on the beautiful BQE.  Which isn't a big deal, because I can (gr...

More noise
