As a musician, I've been learning and playing for about 45 years now. I listened for a long time & latched on to songwriters during the 60s and 70s:
Lennon/McCartney, Simon, Newman, Lightfoot, Cohen, Taylor, & Mitchell...
sounds like a big law firm. Most of my experience as a guitarist has been that as an instrumentalist and accompanist. I was drawn to the finger style players of the British Isles. I covet the ear of the jazz and bluegrass players,... love the music of Jobim.Jumped from being a closet musician into the traditional folk music circles, thanks to the Kentucky Standard Band thru the 90s. A great learning period and opened up a lot of creativity...just in time to move to Germany. While overseas for five years, I wrote a set of instrumental tunes and recorded “Bones of a Saint" upon returning to the States. Jerry Williams was the driving engineer, my talented son Logan provided the percussion along with the gifted David Wilson manning several stringed instruments.Played out and about in Northern Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania for another five years and have a new set of penned tunes while performing with the guitarist Michael Mulligan....just in time to move back to Germany.So...I just recently retired from my proverbial career day job and the question is, "Now what?" I have always hit musical plateaus and tend to think,
"well,...I've peaked with any musical talent I thought I may have had." However I still find little break-out periods when the muse decides to pop in for a visit.Over the years, I've learned to concentrate on trying to develop my own style and voicings... and to be content with the blessings that come with that area in my life. We'll see what happens... I may take up the accordian.~ kb
