About Me
The Dellortos formed fall 2001 by former SKWZBXX guitarist Bradley
MacLean. With an accumulating song catalogue, MacLean enlisted Kevin
and Sarah Gaskins of the Hayloft Saints on drums and bass to complete the lineup. Triggered by early exposure to country, folk, gospel and sixties pop by his harmonica-playing grandfather and guitarist/preacher uncle, MacLean absorbed the music he heard at family gatherings that would influence the direction of the Dellortos. Embracing the structural simplicity of country, folk, gospel and pop, the songs deliver strong vocals, an energy born from rock and punk, and a huge emphasis on melody-------Some of the faster, rowdier tunes recall the energy of the (Violent) Femmes or Dead Milkmen but with a vocal delivery more akin to Built to Spill's Doug Martsch. At times, the earnestness of the melodies resembles the best of early-90's garage pop, like Pavement or Weezer. MacLean's melodies are infectuous, exhuberant, and sincere. It's not just that the hooks are great (and they are; the choruses will be in your head for days), but it's obvious that MacLean means what he's singing and his wholehearted delivery is delightfully disarming. You'll like these songs on first listen, but they'll grow on you each and every time.
(Alan Smith--The Post and Courier Preview)----It's well-crafted pop that draws its notable edge not from solid-state distortion or face paint, instead relying on thoughtful, stripped arrangements and the combination of MacLean's unique voice and his Telecaster chops. the Dellortos are definitely a pop band in the best sense of the word. (They) play timeless, bare bones, original rock songs with strong melodies and, most importantly, natural progressions. Certainly not retreads of tired tunes, Dellortos songs generally possess that powerful quality of being simultaneously unique and familiar.
