I am an all-around information freak. From studies about (A)bnormal behavior to (Z)oo visits, I read and read and discuss, and the wheels in my head just don't stop turning.I have this devious ploy to turn my students into independently thinking creatures, so I am hoping to start a little collection of fascinating books, magazines and articles to spurr some thoughts.
YOU!
BTW, the music on this profile is brought to you, compliments of Dan Smith. Dan. You know, DAN. We all do better with a little bit of Dan. Hey, CAN I HAVE A DAN OVER HERE?
I am very ecclectic. Many times that just means that a person only listens to POP, but I like a little bit of everyhing if it is done well, from Classical to Rap. If you are looking for Classical music with a twist, try Rondo Veneziano. My favorite Classic Rock band would have to be Queen, but there were so many others that were great in that era. I enjoy hearing music with a tinge of a techno beat because it reminds me of home and the 'good old days' in Germany. I am also really disappointed to see that not a lot of really good bands make the jump across from Europe.
Movies? Movies? Alright, so once upon a time I actually still watched them. Now I see the previews, say "I wouldn't mind watching that one," but then never get to it. I did like the Lord of the Rings trilogy (but not as much as the book), The Saint, The Rock, also liked The Sixth Sense. Favorite actor must be Mel Gibson, actress Sandra Bullock.
Does anyone have time to watch that stuff? Thank God for VCR's when something worthwhile is on
I devour books when I have the time. For a good all-time classic, try "The Count of Monte Cristo." Do you need a refresher in US History but you keep falling asleep reading the textbook? Try "1776." It gives you all the essential facts, but reads almost like a novel. Just finished reading "The Devil's Labyrinth". I found a little too predictable.
I believe that there are real life heroes that deserve our respect. I am not talking about the point guard who saves the game in the last two seconds of the game, or the quarterback whose Hail Mary placed his team into the play-offs.
Heroes are people that don't give up in face of real life challenges. Sometimes, when we face adversity, we feel like giving up. Persisting on doing the right thing even when things go ugly is what makes a hero.
Oftentimes we focus on the people that have saved the life of another person in spite of the dangers they had to face themselves. We also need to recognize that people make a difference by saving themselves and can serve as an example of the many that are still drowning. The ripple effect is powerful.
You are my heroe every time:
1.) You come to school and go to your classes, even when you don't feel like it and it would be easy to skip
2.) You act respectfully toward others, even if you don 't agree with them
3.) You don't take the easy way out, and instead do what is right
4.) You consider the feelings of those around you before saying or doing something
5.) You make an effort to better yourself or your surrounding
You could be my heroe every day!
Congratulations to the KWHS Senior class 2007! You guys rock!
