About Me

I am a teacher at KWHS. If you're a student - you better not be reading this during school hours! The Connecting Room is awaiting! There is a time and a place for everything.
Did you know that several teachers at our school have a page on this site? I've had mine for a few years now. To spy on students? No, that's not why, but I am interested in knowing as much about my students as they are willing to share. So, if you do want to know more about me - read on or e-mail me. I always like to take the time to chat when I can.
Summer is over, back to work! We have a great year coming up, full steam ahead. Remember that time waits for nobody, so take advantage of it and get yourself ahead of the crowd still dreaming of summer...
I like coffee. No, I love coffee. Okay, so I am a fanatical coffee lover. I don't really like pop. I cannot stand diet pop. I dislike diet pop so much, that when my wife wanted to pay me back for getting her with my DRAW 4 in UNO, she served me diet pop and watched writhe in agony after drinking it. I like traveling. I don't like not having something to do (not likely to happen at the Muennix household). I like a good breeze coming from the sea while relaxing with a good book.
Hobbies / Interests (when there is time): swimming, (scuba) diving / snorkeling, water skiing, sailing, wind surfing, traveling, foreign languages and cultures, chess, logic puzzles, science & technology, how-2, martial arts.
Despite popular rumors, I do not shop at Assassins R Us. There are other places that sell me what I need.

My Interests

I am an all-around information freak. From studies about (A)bnormal behavior to (Z)oo visits, I read and read and discuss, and the wheels in my head just don't stop turning.I have this devious ploy to turn my students into independently thinking creatures, so I am hoping to start a little collection of fascinating books, magazines and articles to spurr some thoughts.

I'd like to meet:

YOU!

BTW, the music on this profile is brought to you, compliments of Dan Smith. Dan. You know, DAN. We all do better with a little bit of Dan. Hey, CAN I HAVE A DAN OVER HERE?

Music:

I am very ecclectic. Many times that just means that a person only listens to POP, but I like a little bit of everyhing if it is done well, from Classical to Rap. If you are looking for Classical music with a twist, try Rondo Veneziano. My favorite Classic Rock band would have to be Queen, but there were so many others that were great in that era. I enjoy hearing music with a tinge of a techno beat because it reminds me of home and the 'good old days' in Germany. I am also really disappointed to see that not a lot of really good bands make the jump across from Europe.

Movies:

Movies? Movies? Alright, so once upon a time I actually still watched them. Now I see the previews, say "I wouldn't mind watching that one," but then never get to it. I did like the Lord of the Rings trilogy (but not as much as the book), The Saint, The Rock, also liked The Sixth Sense. Favorite actor must be Mel Gibson, actress Sandra Bullock.

Television:

Does anyone have time to watch that stuff? Thank God for VCR's when something worthwhile is on

Books:

I devour books when I have the time. For a good all-time classic, try "The Count of Monte Cristo." Do you need a refresher in US History but you keep falling asleep reading the textbook? Try "1776." It gives you all the essential facts, but reads almost like a novel. Just finished reading "The Devil's Labyrinth". I found a little too predictable.

Heroes:

I believe that there are real life heroes that deserve our respect. I am not talking about the point guard who saves the game in the last two seconds of the game, or the quarterback whose Hail Mary placed his team into the play-offs.
Heroes are people that don't give up in face of real life challenges. Sometimes, when we face adversity, we feel like giving up. Persisting on doing the right thing even when things go ugly is what makes a hero.

Oftentimes we focus on the people that have saved the life of another person in spite of the dangers they had to face themselves. We also need to recognize that people make a difference by saving themselves and can serve as an example of the many that are still drowning. The ripple effect is powerful.

You are my heroe every time:
1.) You come to school and go to your classes, even when you don't feel like it and it would be easy to skip
2.) You act respectfully toward others, even if you don 't agree with them
3.) You don't take the easy way out, and instead do what is right
4.) You consider the feelings of those around you before saying or doing something
5.) You make an effort to better yourself or your surrounding
You could be my heroe every day!
Congratulations to the KWHS Senior class 2007! You guys rock!

Application to date?

I've seen an application for bf on A.'s Myspace. I like the idea of an application. Right now I don't think my daughter will be allowed to date until after she turns 35, but in case I change my mind, ...

Homework. :(

I remember, when I was a student, homework did not make me very happy. Today, it still doesn't make me happy, but now as then I understand it to be a necessary 'evil'. Homework is WORK. It is tedious....
