About Me

I've been playing the clarinet since the age of 10 ... and I love it!!! I work with pianists, instrumentalists and vocalists, and endeavor to perform a variety of solo and chamber works written for the instrument. I play a Buffet R-13 ~ my B-flat clarinet was made in 1967, my A-clarinet is new, purchased just 2 years ago after a few years of being without one. Both instruments are made from the finest grenadilla wood, and are a delight to play. My mouthpiece was hand-made by Walter Grabner, and I use Vintage XL reeds from Australia. I attended New England Conservatory of Music in Boston from 1977-1983, studying with clarinetist William Wrzesien of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, as well as the late Joe Allard. My focus musically has always been on the German classical and romantic repertoire, although I have played other styles as well. The recordings on this page represent several different periods of my life ... the Brahms Trio is from 1981, performed at my undergraduate recital, and the Kreutzer piece is from 2003, performed as part of a German Lieder Series that I produced from 2001-2003. Debussy's "Petit Piece" was the encore on a 1982 recital. I hope you enjoy them all :) I am currently doing a lot more teaching than playing, although future plans include a duo recital with the Back Bay Guitar Trio, and a studio recording of Brahms Clarinet Sonata Nr. 2. I am a substitute clarinetist for the Cape Ann Symphony, and play in other local musical opportunities as they present themselves as well. Every Fall, I present a different chamber work that includes clarinet at the Waring School Faculty Soiree, always striving to present something different and new that will endear my listeners to my art. Recent projects include laying down a couple of tracks for the new "HYPASPACE" CD with guitarist Steve Marchena (I appear on "Chemistry" and "Church"), and performing in a four-day run of the Broadway Musical "The Secret Garden" at the local High School. I especially enjoy the teaching work I do, I feel it is one of my callings in life... to pass the beautiful art of classical clarinet playing down for future generations to enjoy :)Peace and Music to all!
