SENSE OF PURPOSE

About Me

Tired of the negativity, tough guy posturing, faux metal and fashion victims clogging the local scene, Sense of Purpose went against the grain and injected their own brand of fast, positive, passionate hardcore. Playing their first show in October 1999, the band championed the return of old school hardcore ideals with their outspoken stance on a range of political and social issues largely ignored by the scene at the time, where image and apathy reigned supreme.

The band released their first full length CD, "A Matter Of Respect" in February 2001 with the previously unreleased e.p. "End Of A New Beginning" added on to the end of the CD.

In 2003, drummer Pete was brought up front with Chris to give the band a dual vocal attack. Pete had already earned a reputation as a vocalist with hardcore/grind outfit Stamanech 6.40. Good friend Grant Johns of Dying Breed, was brought in to fill the void on drums.

In February 2004, the band headed back to Birdland Studios to record their second full length CD. "Tomorrow's Too Late" was released in mid 2004, a time which also saw the band sign with UK hardcore label Go-Team Records who released the CD internationally later that year, with all new artwork.

Soon after the band parted ways with original guitarist Leith Gow, who was by then also playing in In Name And Blood and brought in new guitarist Brad O'Gorman, who previously played in UK outfit Insight. With the line-up solidified, the band wrote a bunch of songs and in late 2005 recorded 7 new songs at Complex Studios.

But after almost 7 years, having achieved more than they ever expected and been given the opportunity to play along side some amazing bands, Sense Of Purpose decided it was time to exit the scene and released their final CD, the appropriately titled, "Dismantled" in January 2006. A month later the band played their last ever show at Melbourne's RMIT University with good friends The Dead Walk, INAB, Procedure 286 and Go For Broke.

Over the years Sense Of Purpose have played with a host of touring bands including: Agnostic Front (US), H20 (US), AFI (US), Cro-Mags (US), Terror (US), Ensign (US), No Fun At All (Sweden), Strife (US), Champion (US), Citizen Fish (UK), Agent Orange (US), Balance (NZ), Shank (Scotland), DSM (NZ), Shutdown (US), Good Clean Fun (US), Strike Anywhere (US), Dayglo Abortions (Can) and Vitamin X (Neth).
